Romans 7:5
5: When we were controlled by our old nature, sinful desires were at work within us, and the law aroused these evil desires that produced sinful deeds, resulting in death.
Ephesians 2:3
- All of us used to live that way, following the passions and desires of our evil nature. We were born with an evil nature, and we were under God's anger just like everyone else.
Galatians 5:16
- So I advise you to live according to your new life in the Holy Spirit. Then you won't be doing what your sinful nature craves.
- The old sinful nature loves to do evil, which is just opposite from what the Holy Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are opposite from what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, and your choices are never free from this conflict.
Galatians 5:24
- Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there.
Romans 6:13

Romans 7:7
- Well then, am I suggesting that the law of God is evil? Of course not! The law is not sinful, but it was the law that showed me my sin. I would never have known that coveting is wrong if the law had not said, "Do not covet."
- But sin took advantage of this law and aroused all kinds of forbidden desires within me! If there were no law, sin would not have that power.
- I felt fine when I did not understand what the law demanded. But when I learned the truth, I realized I had broken the law and was a sinner, doomed to die.
- So the good law, which was supposed to show me the way of life, instead gave me the death penalty.
- Sin took advantage of the law and fooled me; it took the good law and used it to make me guilty of death.
Matthew 15:19
- For from the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, all other sexual immorality, theft, lying, and slander.
2 Corinthians 3:6
- He is the one who has enabled us to represent his new covenant. This is a covenant, not of written laws, but of the Spirit. The old way ends in death; in the new way, the Holy Spirit gives life.
- That old system of law etched in stone led to death, yet it began with such glory that the people of Israel could not bear to look at Moses' face. For his face shone with the glory of God, even though the brightness was already fading away.
- Shouldn't we expect far greater glory when the Holy Spirit is giving life?
- If the old covenant, which brings condemnation, was glorious, how much more glorious is the new covenant, which makes us right with God!
Ephesians 2:11
- Don't forget that you Gentiles used to be outsiders by birth. You were called "the uncircumcised ones" by the Jews, who were proud of their circumcision, even though it affected only their bodies and not their hearts.
Romans 6:23
- For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 1:26
- That is why God abandoned them to their shameful desires. Even the women turned against the natural way to have sex and instead indulged in sex with each other.

- I speak this way, using the illustration of slaves and masters, because it is easy to understand. Before, you let yourselves be slaves of impurity and lawlessness. Now you must choose to be slaves of righteousness so that you will become holy.
