Romans 5:20
20: God's law was given so that all people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more, God's wonderful kindness became more abundant.
Romans 6:1
- Well then, should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more kindness and forgiveness?
Romans 6:14
- Sin is no longer your master, for you are no longer subject to the law, which enslaves you to sin. Instead, you are free by God's grace.
Titus 3:3
- Once we, too, were foolish and disobedient. We were misled by others and became slaves to many wicked desires and evil pleasures. Our lives were full of evil and envy. We hated others, and they hated us.
- But then God our Savior showed us his kindness and love.
- He saved us, not because of the good things we did, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins and gave us a new life through the Holy Spirit.
- He generously poured out the Spirit upon us because of what Jesus Christ our Savior did.
- He declared us not guilty because of his great kindness. And now we know that we will inherit eternal life.
Psalms 25:11
- For the honor of your name, O LORD, forgive my many, many sins.
Galatians 3:19
- Well then, why was the law given? It was given to show people how guilty they are. But this system of law was to last only until the coming of the child to whom God's promise was made. And there is this further difference. God gave his laws to angels to give to Moses, who was the mediator between God and the people.
- Now a mediator is needed if two people enter into an agreement, but God acted on his own when he made his promise to Abraham.
- Well then, is there a conflict between God's law and God's promises? Absolutely not! If the law could have given us new life, we could have been made right with God by obeying it.
- But the Scriptures have declared that we are all prisoners of sin, so the only way to receive God's promise is to believe in Jesus Christ.
- Until faith in Christ was shown to us as the way of becoming right with God, we were guarded by the law. We were kept in protective custody, so to speak, until we could put our faith in the coming Savior.
Luke 7:47
- I tell you, her sins--and they are many--have been forgiven, so she has shown me much love. But a person who is forgiven little shows only little love."
Romans 4:15
- But the law brings punishment on those who try to obey it. (The only way to avoid breaking the law is to have no law to break!)
Ephesians 2:1
- Once you were dead, doomed forever because of your many sins.
- You used to live just like the rest of the world, full of sin, obeying Satan, the mighty prince of the power of the air. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God.
- All of us used to live that way, following the passions and desires of our evil nature. We were born with an evil nature, and we were under God's anger just like everyone else.
- But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so very much,
- that even while we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God's special favor that you have been saved!)
Romans 3:19
- Obviously, the law applies to those to whom it was given, for its purpose is to keep people from having excuses and to bring the entire world into judgment before God.
- For no one can ever be made right in God's sight by doing what his law commands. For the more we know God's law, the clearer it becomes that we aren't obeying it.
Isaiah 1:18
- "Come now, let us argue this out," says the LORD. "No matter how deep the stain of your sins, I can remove it. I can make you as clean as freshly fallen snow. Even if you are stained as red as crimson, I can make you as white as wool.

2 Corinthians 3:7
- That old system of law etched in stone led to death, yet it began with such glory that the people of Israel could not bear to look at Moses' face. For his face shone with the glory of God, even though the brightness was already fading away.
- Shouldn't we expect far greater glory when the Holy Spirit is giving life?
- If the old covenant, which brings condemnation, was glorious, how much more glorious is the new covenant, which makes us right with God!
Romans 7:5
- When we were controlled by our old nature, sinful desires were at work within us, and the law aroused these evil desires that produced sinful deeds, resulting in death.
- But now we have been released from the law, for we died with Christ, and we are no longer captive to its power. Now we can really serve God, not in the old way by obeying the letter of the law, but in the new way, by the Spirit.
- Well then, am I suggesting that the law of God is evil? Of course not! The law is not sinful, but it was the law that showed me my sin. I would never have known that coveting is wrong if the law had not said, "Do not covet."
- But sin took advantage of this law and aroused all kinds of forbidden desires within me! If there were no law, sin would not have that power.
- I felt fine when I did not understand what the law demanded. But when I learned the truth, I realized I had broken the law and was a sinner, doomed to die.
Ephesians 1:6
- So we praise God for the wonderful kindness he has poured out on us because we belong to his dearly loved Son.
- He is so rich in kindness that he purchased our freedom through the blood of his Son, and our sins are forgiven.
- He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding.
Ezekiel 16:60
- Yet I will keep the covenant I made with you when you were young, and I will establish an everlasting covenant with you.
- Then you will remember with shame all the evil you have done. I will make your sisters, Samaria and Sodom, to be your daughters, even though they are not part of our covenant.

- even though I used to scoff at the name of Christ. I hunted down his people, harming them in every way I could. But God had mercy on me because I did it in ignorance and unbelief.
- Oh, how kind and gracious the Lord was! He filled me completely with faith and the love of Christ Jesus.
- This is a true saying, and everyone should believe it: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners--and I was the worst of them all.
- But that is why God had mercy on me, so that Christ Jesus could use me as a prime example of his great patience with even the worst sinners. Then others will realize that they, too, can believe in him and receive eternal life.
2 Chronicles 33:9

- And when he prayed, the LORD listened to him and was moved by his request for help. So the LORD let Manasseh return to Jerusalem and to his kingdom. Manasseh had finally realized that the LORD alone is God!
Luke 23:39
- One of the criminals hanging beside him scoffed, "So you're the Messiah, are you? Prove it by saving yourself--and us, too, while you're at it!"
- But the other criminal protested, "Don't you fear God even when you are dying?
- We deserve to die for our evil deeds, but this man hasn't done anything wrong."
- Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom."
- And Jesus replied, "I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise."
