Romans 3:20
20: For no one can ever be made right in God's sight by doing what his law commands. For the more we know God's law, the clearer it becomes that we aren't obeying it.
Galatians 2:16
- And yet we Jewish Christians know that we become right with God, not by doing what the law commands, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be accepted by God because of our faith in Christ--and not because we have obeyed the law. For no one will ever be saved by obeying the law."

- How different from this way of faith is the way of law, which says, "If you wish to find life by obeying the law, you must obey all of its commands."
- But Christ has rescued us from the curse pronounced by the law. When he was hung on the cross, he took upon himself the curse for our wrongdoing. For it is written in the Scriptures, "Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree."
Romans 5:13
- Yes, people sinned even before the law was given. And though there was no law to break, since it had not yet been given,
James 2:20
- Fool! When will you ever learn that faith that does not result in good deeds is useless?
- Don't you remember that our ancestor Abraham was declared right with God because of what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar?
- You see, he was trusting God so much that he was willing to do whatever God told him to do. His faith was made complete by what he did--by his actions.
- And so it happened just as the Scriptures say: "Abraham believed God, so God declared him to be righteous." He was even called "the friend of God."
- So you see, we are made right with God by what we do, not by faith alone.
Romans 2:13
- For it is not merely knowing the law that brings God's approval. Those who obey the law will be declared right in God's sight.
