- So Pilate, the governor, went out to them and asked, "What is your charge against this man?"
- "We wouldn't have handed him over to you if he weren't a criminal!" they retorted.
- "Then take him away and judge him by your own laws," Pilate told them. "Only the Romans are permitted to execute someone," the Jewish leaders replied.
- This fulfilled Jesus' prediction about the way he would die.
Luke 23:11
- Now Herod and his soldiers began mocking and ridiculing Jesus. Then they put a royal robe on him and sent him back to Pilate.
Matthew 27:2
- Then they bound him and took him to Pilate, the Roman governor.
- When Judas, who had betrayed him, realized that Jesus had been condemned to die, he was filled with remorse. So he took the thirty pieces of silver back to the leading priests and other leaders.
- "I have sinned," he declared, "for I have betrayed an innocent man.What do we care?" they retorted. "That's your problem."
- Then Judas threw the money onto the floor of the Temple and went out and hanged himself.
- The leading priests picked up the money. "We can't put it in the Temple treasury," they said, "since it's against the law to accept money paid for murder."
Acts 3:13
- For it is the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob, the God of all our ancestors who has brought glory to his servant Jesus by doing this. This is the same Jesus whom you handed over and rejected before Pilate, despite Pilate's decision to release him.
- You rejected this holy, righteous one and instead demanded the release of a murderer.
- You killed the author of life, but God raised him to life. And we are witnesses of this fact!
- "The name of Jesus has healed this man--and you know how lame he was before. Faith in Jesus' name has caused this healing before your very eyes.
