9: Slaves must obey their masters and do their best to please them. They must not talk back
Ephesians 5:24
- As the church submits to Christ, so you wives must submit to your husbands in everything.
1 Timothy 6:1
- Christians who are slaves should give their masters full respect so that the name of God and his teaching will not be shamed.
- If your master is a Christian, that is no excuse for being disrespectful. You should work all the harder because you are helping another believer by your efforts. Teach these truths, Timothy, and encourage everyone to obey them.
Ephesians 6:5
- Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ.
- Work hard, but not just to please your masters when they are watching. As slaves of Christ, do the will of God with all your heart.
- Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.
- Remember that the Lord will reward each one of us for the good we do, whether we are slaves or free.
1 Peter 2:18
- You who are slaves must accept the authority of your masters. Do whatever they tell you--not only if they are kind and reasonable, but even if they are harsh.
- For God is pleased with you when, for the sake of your conscience, you patiently endure unfair treatment.
- Of course, you get no credit for being patient if you are beaten for doing wrong. But if you suffer for doing right and are patient beneath the blows, God is pleased with you.
- This suffering is all part of what God has called you to. Christ, who suffered for you, is your example. Follow in his steps.
- He never sinned, and he never deceived anyone.
Colossians 3:22
- You slaves must obey your earthly masters in everything you do. Try to please them all the time, not just when they are watching you. Obey them willingly because of your reverent fear of the Lord.
- Work hard and cheerfully at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.
- Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and the Master you are serving is Christ.
- But if you do what is wrong, you will be paid back for the wrong you have done. For God has no favorites who can get away with evil.
