1: "I assure you, anyone who sneaks over the wall of a sheepfold, rather than going through the gate, must surely be a thief and a robber!
John 10:8
- "All others who came before me were thieves and robbers. But the true sheep did not listen to them.
- Yes, I am the gate. Those who come in through me will be saved. Wherever they go, they will find green pastures.
- The thief's purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give life in all its fullness.
Matthew 7:15

- This salvation was something the prophets wanted to know more about. They prophesied about this gracious salvation prepared for you, even though they had many questions as to what it all could mean.
Ephesians 4:8
- That is why the Scriptures say, "When he ascended to the heights, he led a crowd of captives and gave gifts to his people."
- Notice that it says "he ascended." This means that Christ first came down to the lowly world in which we live.
- The same one who came down is the one who ascended higher than all the heavens, so that his rule might fill the entire universe.
- He is the one who gave these gifts to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers.
- Their responsibility is to equip God's people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ,
Jeremiah 23:32
- Their imaginary dreams are flagrant lies that lead my people into sin. I did not send or appoint them, and they have no message at all for my people," says the LORD.
Romans 10:15
- And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!"

John 3:3

Ezekiel 13:2
- "Son of man, speak against the false prophets of Israel who are inventing their own prophecies. Tell them to listen to the word of the LORD.

Isaiah 56:10
- For the leaders of my people--the LORD's watchmen, his shepherds--are blind to every danger. They are like silent watchdogs that give no warning when danger comes. They love to lie around, sleeping and dreaming.
- And they are as greedy as dogs, never satisfied. They are stupid shepherds, all following their own path, all of them intent on personal gain.
- "Come," they say. "We will get some wine and have a party. Let's all get drunk. Let this go on and on, and tomorrow will be even better."
Matthew 23:16
- "Blind guides! How terrible it will be for you! For you say that it means nothing to swear 'by God's Temple'--you can break that oath. But then you say that it is binding to swear 'by the gold in the Temple.'
- Blind fools! Which is greater, the gold, or the Temple that makes the gold sacred?
- And you say that to take an oath 'by the altar' can be broken, but to swear 'by the gifts on the altar' is binding!
- How blind! For which is greater, the gift on the altar, or the altar that makes the gift sacred?
- When you swear 'by the altar,' you are swearing by it and by everything on it.
Jeremiah 14:15
- Therefore, says the LORD, I will punish these lying prophets, for they have spoken in my name even though I never sent them. They say that no war or famine will come, but they themselves will die by war and famine!
Jeremiah 23:21
- "I have not sent these prophets, yet they claim to speak for me. I have given them no message, yet they prophesy.
Ezekiel 34:2
- "Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds, the leaders of Israel. Give them this message from the Sovereign LORD: Destruction is certain for you shepherds who feed yourselves instead of your flocks. Shouldn't shepherds feed their sheep?
- You drink the milk, wear the wool, and butcher the best animals, but you let your flocks starve.
- You have not taken care of the weak. You have not tended the sick or bound up the broken bones. You have not gone looking for those who have wandered away and are lost. Instead, you have ruled them with force and cruelty.
- So my sheep have been scattered without a shepherd. They are easy prey for any wild animal.
Jeremiah 28:15
- Then Jeremiah the prophet said to Hananiah, "Listen, Hananiah! The LORD has not sent you, but the people believe your lies.
- Therefore, the LORD says you must die. Your life will end this very year because you have rebelled against the LORD."
- Two months later, Hananiah died.
Zechariah 11:4
- This is what the LORD my God says: "Go and care for a flock that is intended for slaughter.
- The buyers will slaughter their sheep without remorse. The sellers will say, `Praise the LORD, I am now rich!' Even the shepherds have no compassion for them.
Zechariah 11:16
- This will illustrate how I will give this nation a shepherd who will not care for the sheep that are threatened by death, nor look after the young, nor heal the injured, nor feed the healthy. Instead, this shepherd will eat the meat of the fattest sheep and tear off their hooves.
- Doom is certain for this worthless shepherd who abandons the flock! The sword will cut his arm and pierce his right eye! His arm will become useless, and his right eye completely blind!"
Titus 1:11
- They must be silenced. By their wrong teaching, they have already turned whole families away from the truth. Such teachers only want your money.
2 Peter 2:14
- They commit adultery with their eyes, and their lust is never satisfied. They make a game of luring unstable people into sin. They train themselves to be greedy; they are doomed and cursed.
- They have wandered off the right road and followed the way of Balaam son of Beor, who loved to earn money by doing wrong.
- But Balaam was stopped from his mad course when his donkey rebuked him with a human voice.
- These people are as useless as dried-up springs of water or as clouds blown away by the wind--promising much and delivering nothing. They are doomed to blackest darkness.
- They brag about themselves with empty, foolish boasting. With lustful desire as their bait, they lure back into sin those who have just escaped from such wicked living.
