4: So he sent other servants to tell them, 'The feast has been prepared, and choice meats have been cooked. Everything is ready. Hurry!'

So the landowner sent a larger group of his servants to collect for him, but the results were the same.

Then Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly and declared, "It was necessary that this Good News from God be given first to you Jews. But since you have rejected it and judged yourselves unworthy of eternal life--well, we will offer it to Gentiles.

O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive, so full of unfailing love for all who ask your aid.

And he said to his servants, 'The wedding feast is ready, and the guests I invited aren't worthy of the honor.

Remove this wicked person from among you so that you can stay pure. Christ, our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed for us.
So let us celebrate the festival, not by eating the old bread of wickedness and evil, but by eating the new bread of purity and truth.

And he said, "Yes, it was written long ago that the Messiah must suffer and die and rise again from the dead on the third day.
With my authority, take this message of repentance to all the nations, beginning in Jerusalem: 'There is forgiveness of sins for all who turn to me.'

Three days after Paul's arrival, he called together the local Jewish leaders. He said to them, "Brothers, I was arrested in Jerusalem and handed over to the Roman government, even though I had done nothing against our people or the customs of our ancestors.
The Romans tried me and wanted to release me, for they found no cause for the death sentence.
But when the Jewish leaders protested the decision, I felt it necessary to appeal to Caesar, even though I had no desire to press charges against my own people.
I asked you to come here today so we could get acquainted and so I could tell you that I am bound with this chain because I believe that the hope of Israel--the Messiah--has already come."
They replied, "We have heard nothing against you. We have had no letters from Judea or reports from anyone who has arrived here.

However, the bread from heaven gives eternal life to everyone who eats it.
I am the living bread that came down out of heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever; this bread is my flesh, offered so the world may live."
Then the people began arguing with each other about what he meant. "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?" they asked.
So Jesus said again, "I assure you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you cannot have eternal life within you.
But those who eat my flesh and drink my blood have eternal life, and I will raise them at the last day.

When all was ready, he sent his servant around to notify the guests that it was time for them to come.

"They refused to listen and did not remember the miracles you had done for them. Instead, they rebelled and appointed a leader to take them back to their slavery in Egypt! But you are a God of forgiveness, gracious and merciful, slow to become angry, and full of unfailing love and mercy. You did not abandon them,

I am here in my garden, my treasure, my bride! I gather my myrrh with my spices and eat my honeycomb with my honey. I drink my wine with my milk. Oh, lover and beloved, eat and drink! Yes, drink deeply of this love!

Since God did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won't God, who gave us Christ, also give us everything else?

But when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, you will receive power and will tell people about me everywhere--in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

Meanwhile, the believers who had fled from Jerusalem during the persecution after Stephen's death traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch of Syria. They preached the Good News, but only to Jews.
However, some of the believers who went to Antioch from Cyprus and Cyrene began preaching to Gentiles about the Lord Jesus.

The Lord now chose seventy-two other disciples and sent them on ahead in pairs to all the towns and villages he planned to visit.
These were his instructions to them: "The harvest is so great, but the workers are so few. Pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest, and ask him to send out more workers for his fields.
Go now, and remember that I am sending you out as lambs among wolves.
Don't take along any money, or a traveler's bag, or even an extra pair of sandals. And don't stop to greet anyone on the road.
"Whenever you enter a home, give it your blessing.
