Matthew 20:27

27: and whoever wants to be first must become your slave.

But among you, those who are the greatest should take the lowest rank, and the leader should be like a servant.

We don't go around preaching about ourselves; we preach Christ Jesus, the Lord. All we say about ourselves is that we are your servants because of what Jesus has done for us.

After they arrived at Capernaum, Jesus and his disciples settled in the house where they would be staying. Jesus asked them, "What were you discussing out on the road?"
But they didn't answer, because they had been arguing about which of them was the greatest.
He sat down and called the twelve disciples over to him. Then he said, "Anyone who wants to be the first must take last place and be the servant of everyone else."

Therefore, anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.

You know that these hands of mine have worked to pay my own way, and I have even supplied the needs of those who were with me.
And I have been a constant example of how you can help the poor by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'"

This means I am not bound to obey people just because they pay me, yet I have become a servant of everyone so that I can bring them to Christ.
When I am with the Jews, I become one of them so that I can bring them to Christ. When I am with those who follow the Jewish laws, I do the same, even though I am not subject to the law, so that I can bring them to Christ.
When I am with the Gentiles who do not have the Jewish law, I fit in with them as much as I can. In this way, I gain their confidence and bring them to Christ. But I do not discard the law of God; I obey the law of Christ.
When I am with those who are oppressed, I share their oppression so that I might bring them to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone so that I might bring them to Christ.
I do all this to spread the Good News, and in doing so I enjoy its blessings.

They say they serve Christ? I know I sound like a madman, but I have served him far more! I have worked harder, been put in jail more often, been whipped times without number, and faced death again and again.
Five different times the Jews gave me thirty-nine lashes.
Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three times I was shipwrecked. Once I spent a whole night and a day adrift at sea.
I have traveled many weary miles. I have faced danger from flooded rivers and from robbers. I have faced danger from my own people, the Jews, as well as from the Gentiles. I have faced danger in the cities, in the deserts, and on the stormy seas. And I have faced danger from men who claim to be Christians but are not.
I have lived with weariness and pain and sleepless nights. Often I have been hungry and thirsty and have gone without food. Often I have shivered with cold, without enough clothing to keep me warm.

For I have a great sense of obligation to people in our culture and to people in other cultures, to the educated and uneducated alike.

I will gladly spend myself and all I have for your spiritual good, even though it seems that the more I love you, the less you love me.
