15: And I will give you leaders after my own heart, who will guide you with knowledge and understanding.

Then I will appoint responsible shepherds to care for them, and they will never be afraid again. Not a single one of them will be lost or missing," says the LORD.

"And now beware! Be sure that you feed and shepherd God's flock--his church, purchased with his blood--over whom the Holy Spirit has appointed you as elders.

He is the one who gave these gifts to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers.
Their responsibility is to equip God's people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ,

And I will set one shepherd over them, even my servant David. He will feed them and be a shepherd to them.

After breakfast Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?Yes, Lord," Peter replied, "you know I love you.Then feed my lambs," Jesus told him.
Jesus repeated the question: "Simon son of John, do you love me?Yes, Lord," Peter said, "you know I love you.Then take care of my sheep," Jesus said.
Once more he asked him, "Simon son of John, do you love me?" Peter was grieved that Jesus asked the question a third time. He said, "Lord, you know everything. You know I love you." Jesus said, "Then feed my sheep.

Though the Lord gave you adversity for food and affliction for drink, he will still be with you to teach you. You will see your teacher with your own eyes,
and you will hear a voice say, "This is the way; turn around and walk here."

Dear brothers and sisters, when I was with you I couldn't talk to you as I would to mature Christians. I had to talk as though you belonged to this world or as though you were infants in the Christian life.
I had to feed you with milk and not with solid food, because you couldn't handle anything stronger. And you still aren't ready,

"My servant David will be their king, and they will have only one shepherd. They will obey my regulations and keep my laws.

The godly give good advice, but fools are destroyed by their lack of common sense.

Yet when I am among mature Christians, I do speak with words of wisdom, but not the kind of wisdom that belongs to this world, and not the kind that appeals to the rulers of this world, who are being brought to nothing.

And God has actually given us his Spirit (not the world's spirit) so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us.
When we tell you this, we do not use words of human wisdom. We speak words given to us by the Spirit, using the Spirit's words to explain spiritual truths.

And the Lord replied, "I'm talking to any faithful, sensible servant to whom the master gives the responsibility of managing his household and feeding his family.

And now, a word to you who are elders in the churches. I, too, am an elder and a witness to the sufferings of Christ. And I, too, will share his glory and his honor when he returns. As a fellow elder, this is my appeal to you:
Care for the flock of God entrusted to you. Watch over it willingly, not grudgingly--not for what you will get out of it, but because you are eager to serve God.
Don't lord it over the people assigned to your care, but lead them by your good example.
And when the head Shepherd comes, your reward will be a never-ending share in his glory and honor.

But now your dynasty must end, for the LORD has sought out a man after his own heart. The LORD has already chosen him to be king over his people, for you have not obeyed the LORD's command."

"I assure you, anyone who sneaks over the wall of a sheepfold, rather than going through the gate, must surely be a thief and a robber!
For a shepherd enters through the gate.
The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep hear his voice and come to him. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.
After he has gathered his own flock, he walks ahead of them, and they follow him because they recognize his voice.
They won't follow a stranger; they will run from him because they don't recognize his voice."

You have been Christians a long time now, and you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things a beginner must learn about the Scriptures. You are like babies who drink only milk and cannot eat solid food.
And a person who is living on milk isn't very far along in the Christian life and doesn't know much about doing what is right.
Solid food is for those who are mature, who have trained themselves to recognize the difference between right and wrong and then do what is right.

And he will stand to lead his flock with the LORD's strength, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God. Then his people will live there undisturbed, for he will be highly honored all around the world.
And he will be the source of our peace. When the Assyrians invade our land and break through our defenses, we will appoint seven rulers to watch over us, eight princes to lead us.

You must crave pure spiritual milk so that you can grow into the fullness of your salvation. Cry out for this nourishment as a baby cries for milk,
