37: You know what happened all through Judea, beginning in Galilee after John the Baptist began preaching.
Luke 4:14
- Then Jesus returned to Galilee, filled with the Holy Spirit's power. Soon he became well known throughout the surrounding country.

Mark 1:1
- Here begins the Good News about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God.
- In the book of the prophet Isaiah, God said, "Look, I am sending my messenger before you, and he will prepare your way.
- He is a voice shouting in the wilderness: 'Prepare a pathway for the Lord's coming! Make a straight road for him!'"
- This messenger was John the Baptist. He lived in the wilderness and was preaching that people should be baptized to show that they had turned from their sins and turned to God to be forgiven.
- People from Jerusalem and from all over Judea traveled out into the wilderness to see and hear John. And when they confessed their sins, he baptized them in the Jordan River.
Luke 23:5
- Then they became desperate. "But he is causing riots everywhere he goes, all over Judea, from Galilee to Jerusalem!"
Matthew 4:12
- When Jesus heard that John had been arrested, he left Judea and returned to Galilee.
- But instead of going to Nazareth, he went to Capernaum, beside the Sea of Galilee, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali.
- This fulfilled Isaiah's prophecy:
- "In the land of Zebulun and of Naphtali, beside the sea, beyond the Jordan River--in Galilee where so many Gentiles live--
- the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light. And for those who lived in the land where death casts its shadow, a light has shined."
John 4:1
- Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard, "Jesus is baptizing and making more disciples than John"
- (though Jesus himself didn't baptize them--his disciples did).
- So he left Judea to return to Galilee.
Mark 1:14
- Later on, after John was arrested by Herod Antipas, Jesus went to Galilee to preach God's Good News.
- "At last the time has come!" he announced. "The Kingdom of God is near! Turn from your sins and believe this Good News!"
Acts 1:22
- from the time he was baptized by John until the day he was taken from us into heaven. Whoever is chosen will join us as a witness of Jesus' resurrection."
