17: Every wrong is sin, but not all sin leads to death.

Those who sin are opposed to the law of God, for all sin opposes the law of God.

If you see a Christian brother or sister sinning in a way that does not lead to death, you should pray, and God will give that person life. But there is a sin that leads to death, and I am not saying you should pray for those who commit it.

When righteous people turn from being good and start doing sinful things, they will die for it. Yes, they will die because of their sinful deeds.
And if wicked people turn away from their wickedness, obey the law, and do what is just and right, they will save their lives.
They will live, because after thinking it over, they decided to turn from their sins. Such people will not die.
And yet the people of Israel keep saying, `The Lord is unjust!' O people of Israel, it is you who are unjust, not I.
"Therefore, I will judge each of you, O people of Israel, according to your actions, says the Sovereign LORD. Turn from your sins! Don't let them destroy you!

"Come now, let us argue this out," says the LORD. "No matter how deep the stain of your sins, I can remove it. I can make you as clean as freshly fallen snow. Even if you are stained as red as crimson, I can make you as white as wool.

So humble yourselves before God. Resist the Devil, and he will flee from you.
Draw close to God, and God will draw close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, you hypocrites.
Let there be tears for the wrong things you have done. Let there be sorrow and deep grief. Let there be sadness instead of laughter, and gloom instead of joy.
When you bow down before the Lord and admit your dependence on him, he will lift you up and give you honor.

My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if you do sin, there is someone to plead for you before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who pleases God completely.

Carefully obey all the commands I give you. Do not add to them or subtract from them.

So Moses told the people, "You must obey all the commands of the LORD your God, following his instructions in every detail.

God's law was given so that all people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more, God's wonderful kindness became more abundant.
So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God's wonderful kindness rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
