11: And since the storm was getting worse all the time, they asked him, "What should we do to you to stop this storm?"
1 Samuel 6:2
- Then the Philistines called in their priests and diviners and asked them, "What should we do about the Ark of the LORD? Tell us how to return it to its own land."
- "Send the Ark of the God of Israel back, along with a gift," they were told. "Send a guilt offering so the plague will stop. Then, if the plague doesn't stop, you will know that God didn't send the plague after all."
2 Samuel 21:1
- There was a famine during David's reign that lasted for three years, so David asked the LORD about it. And the LORD said, "The famine has come because Saul and his family are guilty of murdering the Gibeonites."
- So King David summoned the Gibeonites. They were not part of Israel but were all that was left of the nation of the Amorites. Israel had sworn not to kill them, but Saul, in his zeal, had tried to wipe them out.
- David asked them, "What can I do for you to make amends? Tell me so that the LORD will bless his people again."
- "Well, money won't do it," the Gibeonites replied. "And we don't want to see the Israelites executed in revenge.What can I do then?" David asked. "Just tell me and I will do it for you."
- Then they replied, "It was Saul who planned to destroy us, to keep us from having any place at all in Israel.
2 Samuel 24:11
- The next morning the word of the LORD came to the prophet Gad, who was David's seer. This was the message:
- "Go and say to David, `This is what the LORD says: I will give you three choices. Choose one of these punishments, and I will do it.'"
- So Gad came to David and asked him, "Will you choose three years of famine throughout the land, three months of fleeing from your enemies, or three days of severe plague throughout your land? Think this over and let me know what answer to give the LORD."
Micah 6:6
- What can we bring to the LORD to make up for what we've done? Should we bow before God with offerings of yearling calves?
- Should we offer him thousands of rams and tens of thousands of rivers of olive oil? Would that please the LORD? Should we sacrifice our firstborn children to pay for the sins of our souls? Would that make him glad?
