Genesis 17:19
19: But God replied, "Sarah, your wife, will bear you a son. You will name him Isaac, and I will confirm my everlasting covenant with him and his descendants.
Romans 9:6
- Well then, has God failed to fulfill his promise to the Jews? No, for not everyone born into a Jewish family is truly a Jew!
- Just the fact that they are descendants of Abraham doesn't make them truly Abraham's children. For the Scriptures say, "Isaac is the son through whom your descendants will be counted," though Abraham had other children, too.
- This means that Abraham's physical descendants are not necessarily children of God. It is the children of the promise who are considered to be Abraham's children.
- For God had promised, "Next year I will return, and Sarah will have a son."
Genesis 21:2
- Sarah became pregnant, and she gave a son to Abraham in his old age. It all happened at the time God had said it would.
- And Abraham named his son Isaac.

Galatians 4:28
- And you, dear brothers and sisters, are children of the promise, just like Isaac.
- And we who are born of the Holy Spirit are persecuted by those who want us to keep the law, just as Isaac, the child of promise, was persecuted by Ishmael, the son of the slave-wife.
- But what do the Scriptures say about that? "Get rid of the slave and her son, for the son of the slave woman will not share the family inheritance with the free woman's son."
- So, dear brothers and sisters, we are not children of the slave woman, obligated to the law. We are children of the free woman, acceptable to God because of our faith.
Genesis 18:10
- Then one of them said, "About this time next year I will return, and your wife Sarah will have a son." Now Sarah was listening to this conversation from the tent nearby.
- And since Abraham and Sarah were both very old, and Sarah was long past the age of having children,
- she laughed silently to herself. "How could a worn-out woman like me have a baby?" she thought. "And when my master--my husband--is also so old?"
- Then the LORD said to Abraham, "Why did Sarah laugh? Why did she say, `Can an old woman like me have a baby?'
- Is anything too hard for the LORD? About a year from now, just as I told you, I will return, and Sarah will have a son."
2 Kings 4:16
- "Next year at about this time you will be holding a son in your arms!No, my lord!" she protested. "Please don't lie to me like that, O man of God."
- But sure enough, the woman soon became pregnant. And at that time the following year she had a son, just as Elisha had said.
Genesis 17:21
- But my covenant is with Isaac, who will be born to you and Sarah about this time next year."
Genesis 26:3
- Do as I say, and stay here in this land. If you do, I will be with you and bless you. I will give all this land to you and your descendants, just as I solemnly promised Abraham, your father.
