Galatians 3:18
18: For if the inheritance could be received only by keeping the law, then it would not be the result of accepting God's promise. But God gave it to Abraham as a promise.
Hebrews 6:12
- Then you will not become spiritually dull and indifferent. Instead, you will follow the example of those who are going to inherit God's promises because of their faith and patience.
- For example, there was God's promise to Abraham. Since there was no one greater to swear by, God took an oath in his own name, saying:
- "I will certainly bless you richly, and I will multiply your descendants into countless millions."
- Then Abraham waited patiently, and he received what God had promised.
Luke 1:72
- He has been merciful to our ancestors by remembering his sacred covenant with them,

Romans 4:13
- It is clear, then, that God's promise to give the whole earth to Abraham and his descendants was not based on obedience to God's law, but on the new relationship with God that comes by faith.
- So if you claim that God's promise is for those who obey God's law and think they are "good enough" in God's sight, then you are saying that faith is useless. And in that case, the promise is also meaningless.
- But the law brings punishment on those who try to obey it. (The only way to avoid breaking the law is to have no law to break!)
- So that's why faith is the key! God's promise is given to us as a free gift. And we are certain to receive it, whether or not we follow Jewish customs, if we have faith like Abraham's. For Abraham is the father of all who believe.
Psalms 105:6
- O children of Abraham, God's servant, O descendants of Jacob, God's chosen one.
- He is the LORD our God. His rule is seen throughout the land.
- He always stands by his covenant--the commitment he made to a thousand generations.
- This is the covenant he made with Abraham and the oath he swore to Isaac.
- He confirmed it to Jacob as a decree, to the people of Israel as a never-ending treaty:
Galatians 3:10
- But those who depend on the law to make them right with God are under his curse, for the Scriptures say, "Cursed is everyone who does not observe and obey all these commands that are written in God's Book of the Law."

Galatians 3:16
- God gave the promise to Abraham and his child. And notice that it doesn't say the promise was to his children, as if it meant many descendants. But the promise was to his child--and that, of course, means Christ.
