6: This is what the LORD says: "The people of Israel have sinned again and again, and I will not forget it. I will not let them go unpunished any longer! They have perverted justice by selling honest people for silver and poor people for a pair of sandals.

Hosea 4:11
- "Alcohol and prostitution have robbed my people of their brains.
- They are asking a piece of wood to tell them what to do! They think a stick can tell them the future! Longing after idols has made them foolish. They have played the prostitute, serving other gods and deserting their God.
- They offer sacrifices to idols on the tops of mountains. They go up into the hills to burn incense in the pleasant shade of oaks, poplars, and other trees. "That is why your daughters turn to prostitution, and your daughters-in-law commit adultery.
- Why should I punish them? For you men are doing the same thing, sinning with whores and shrine prostitutes. O foolish people! You will be destroyed, for you refuse to understand.
2 Kings 17:7
- This disaster came upon the nation of Israel because the people worshiped other gods, sinning against the LORD their God, who had brought them safely out of their slavery in Egypt.
- They had imitated the practices of the pagan nations the LORD had driven from the land before them, as well as the practices the kings of Israel had introduced.
- The people of Israel had also secretly done many things that were not pleasing to the LORD their God. They built pagan shrines for themselves in all their towns, from the smallest outpost to the largest walled city.
- They set up sacred pillars and Asherah poles at the top of every hill and under every green tree.
- They burned incense at the shrines, just like the nations the LORD had driven from the land ahead of them. So the people of Israel had done many evil things, arousing the LORD's anger.
Isaiah 5:22
- Destruction is certain for those who are heroes when it comes to drinking, who boast about all the liquor they can hold.
- They take bribes to pervert justice. They let the wicked go free while punishing the innocent.
Amos 6:3
- You push away every thought of coming disaster, but your actions only bring the day of judgment closer.
- How terrible it will be for you who sprawl on ivory beds surrounded with luxury, eating the meat of tender lambs and choice calves.
- You sing idle songs to the sound of the harp, and you fancy yourselves to be great musicians, as King David was.
- You drink wine by the bowlful, and you perfume yourselves with exotic fragrances, caring nothing at all that your nation is going to ruin.
- Therefore, you will be the first to be led away as captives. Suddenly, all your revelry will end.
2 Kings 18:12
- For they had refused to listen to the LORD their God. Instead, they had violated his covenant--all the laws the LORD had given through his servant Moses.
Hosea 8:4
- The people have appointed kings and princes, but not with my consent. By making idols for themselves from their silver and gold, they have brought about their own destruction.
- "O Samaria, I reject this calf--this idol you have made. My fury burns against you. How long will you be incapable of innocence?
- This calf you worship was crafted by your own hands! It is not God! Therefore, it must be smashed to bits.
Hosea 7:7
- They kill their kings one after another, and no one cries out to me for help.
- "My people of Israel mingle with godless foreigners, picking up their evil ways. Now they have become as worthless as a half-baked cake!
- Worshiping foreign gods has sapped their strength, but they don't even know it. Israel is like an old man with graying hair, unaware of how weak and old he has become.
- His arrogance testifies against him, yet he doesn't return to the LORD his God or even try to find him.
