1 Chronicles 23:7
- The Gershonite family units were defined by their lines of descent from Libni and Shimei, the sons of Gershon.
2 Chronicles 29:14
- From the family of Heman: Jehiel and Shimei. From the family of Jeduthun: Shemaiah and Uzziel.
Numbers 3:1
- This is the family line of Aaron and Moses as it was recorded when the LORD spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai:
- Aaron's sons were Nadab (the firstborn), Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.
- They were anointed and set apart to minister as priests.
- But Nadab and Abihu died in the LORD's presence in the wilderness of Sinai when they burned before the LORD a different kind of fire than he had commanded. Since they had no sons, this left only Eleazar and Ithamar to serve as priests with their father, Aaron.
2 Samuel 16:5
- As David and his party passed Bahurim, a man came out of the village cursing them. It was Shimei son of Gera, a member of Saul's family.
1 Chronicles 3:19
- The sons of Pedaiah were Zerubbabel and Shimei. The sons of Zerubbabel were Meshullam and Hananiah. He also had a daughter named Shelomith.
Exodus 6:16
- These are the descendants of Levi, listed according to their family groups. In the first generation were Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. (Levi, their father, lived to be 137 years old.)
- The descendants of Gershon included Libni and Shimei, each of whom is the ancestor of a clan.
- The descendants of Kohath included Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel. (Kohath lived to be 133 years old.)
- The descendants of Merari included Mahli and Mushi. These are the clans of the Levites, listed according to their genealogies.
- Amram married his father's sister Jochebed, and she bore him Aaron and Moses. (Amram lived to be 137 years old.)
1 Chronicles 4:27
- Shimei had sixteen sons and six daughters, but none of his brothers had large families. So Simeon's tribe never became as large as the tribe of Judah.
Malachi 2:4
- Then at last you will know it was I who sent you this warning so that my covenant with the Levites may continue," says the LORD Almighty.
- "The purpose of my covenant with the Levites was to bring life and peace, and this is what I gave them. This called for reverence from them, and they greatly revered me and stood in awe of my name.
