15: "See," Naomi said to her, "your sister-in-law has gone back to her people and to her gods. You should do the same."

You keep whatever your god Chemosh gives you, and we will keep whatever the LORD our God gives us.

But if you are unwilling to serve the LORD, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the LORD."

And I will destroy those who used to worship me but now no longer do. They no longer ask for the LORD's guidance or seek my blessings."

Then the king turned to Ittai, the captain of the Gittites, and asked, "Why are you coming with us? Go on back with your men to King Absalom, for you are a guest in Israel, a foreigner in exile.
You arrived only yesterday, and now should I force you to wander with us? I don't even know where we will go. Go on back and take your troops with you, and may the LORD show you his unfailing love and faithfulness. "

And Elijah said to Elisha, "Stay here, for the LORD has told me to go to Bethel." But Elisha replied, "As surely as the LORD lives and you yourself live, I will never leave you!" So they went on together to Bethel.

And a righteous person will live by faith. But I will have no pleasure in anyone who turns away."

These people left our churches because they never really belonged with us; otherwise they would have stayed with us. When they left us, it proved that they do not belong with us.

By this time they were nearing Emmaus and the end of their journey. Jesus would have gone on,

"If you want to be my follower you must love me more than your own father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters--yes, more than your own life. Otherwise, you cannot be my disciple.
And you cannot be my disciple if you do not carry your own cross and follow me.
"But don't begin until you count the cost. For who would begin construction of a building without first getting estimates and then checking to see if there is enough money to pay the bills?
Otherwise, you might complete only the foundation before running out of funds. And then how everyone would laugh at you!
They would say, 'There's the person who started that building and ran out of money before it was finished!'

Everything they say is crooked and deceitful. They refuse to act wisely or do what is good.

Then Joshua said to the people, "You are not able to serve the LORD, for he is a holy and jealous God. He will not forgive your rebellion and sins.

But banish those who turn to crooked ways, O LORD. Take them away with those who do evil. And let Israel have quietness and peace.

The rocky soil represents those who hear the message and receive it with joy.
But like young plants in such soil, their roots don't go very deep. At first they get along fine, but they wilt as soon as they have problems or are persecuted because they believe the word.
