8: You have caused my friends to loathe me; you have sent them all away. I am in a trap with no way of escape.

I am scorned by all my enemies and despised by my neighbors--even my friends are afraid to come near me. When they see me on the street, they turn the other way.

I got rid of their three evil shepherds in a single month. But I became impatient with these sheep--this nation--and they hated me, too.

The LORD, the Redeemer and Holy One of Israel, says to the one who is despised and rejected by a nation, to the one who is the servant of rulers: "Kings will stand at attention when you pass by. Princes will bow low because the LORD has chosen you. He, the faithful LORD, the Holy One of Israel, chooses you."

Anyone who hates me hates my Father, too.
If I hadn't done such miraculous signs among them that no one else could do, they would not be counted guilty. But as it is, they saw all that I did and yet hated both of us--me and my Father.

I look for someone to come and help me, but no one gives me a passing thought! No one will help me; no one cares a bit what happens to me.

So the two of them renewed their covenant of friendship before the LORD. Then Jonathan returned home, while David stayed at Horesh.
But now the men of Ziph went to Saul in Gibeah and betrayed David to him. "We know where David is hiding," they said. "He is in the strongholds of Horesh on the hill of Hakilah, which is in the southern part of Jeshimon.
Come down whenever you're ready, O king, and we will catch him and hand him over to you!"

"My relatives stay far away, and my friends have turned against me.
My neighbors and my close friends are all gone.
The members of my household have forgotten me. The servant girls consider me a stranger. I am like a foreigner to them.
I call my servant, but he doesn't come; I even plead with him!
My breath is repulsive to my wife. I am loathsome to my own family.

"I have trodden the winepress alone; no one was there to help me. In my anger I have trampled my enemies as if they were grapes. In my fury I have trampled my foes. It is their blood that has stained my clothes.

So when the governor asked again, "Which of these two do you want me to release to you?" the crowd shouted back their reply: "Barabbas!"
"But if I release Barabbas," Pilate asked them, "what should I do with Jesus who is called the Messiah?" And they all shouted, "Crucify him!"
"Why?" Pilate demanded. "What crime has he committed?" But the crowd only roared the louder, "Crucify him!"
Pilate saw that he wasn't getting anywhere and that a riot was developing. So he sent for a bowl of water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, "I am innocent of the blood of this man. The responsibility is yours!"
And all the people yelled back, "We will take responsibility for his death--we and our children!"

Meanwhile, the leading priests and Pharisees had publicly announced that anyone seeing Jesus must report him immediately so they could arrest him.

What he destroys cannot be rebuilt. When he closes in on someone, there is no escape.

He has walled me in, and I cannot escape. He has bound me in heavy chains.
And though I cry and shout, he shuts out my prayers.
He has blocked my path with a high stone wall. He has twisted the road before me with many detours.
