Psalms 51:3

3: For I recognize my shameful deeds--they haunt me day and night.

For our sins are piled up before God and testify against us. Yes, we know what sinners we are.

People who cover over their sins will not prosper. But if they confess and forsake them, they will receive mercy.

Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide them. I said to myself, "I will confess my rebellion to the LORD." And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone.

"But at last my people will confess their sins and the sins of their ancestors for betraying me and being hostile toward me.
Finally, when I have given full expression to my hostility and have brought them to the land of their enemies, then at last their disobedient hearts will be humbled, and they will pay for their sins.

I will go home to my father and say, "Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you,
and I am no longer worthy of being called your son. Please take me on as a hired man."'
"So he returned home to his father. And while he was still a long distance away, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him.
His son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you, and I am no longer worthy of being called your son. '

Those of Israelite descent separated themselves from all foreigners as they confessed their own sins and the sins of their ancestors.

For troubles surround me--too many to count! They pile up so high I can't see my way out. They are more numerous than the hairs on my head. I have lost all my courage.

Let us now lie down in shame and dishonor, for we and our ancestors have always sinned against the LORD our God. We have never obeyed him."
