Psalms 44:2

2: You drove out the pagan nations and gave all the land to our ancestors; you crushed their enemies, setting our ancestors free.

You will bring them in and plant them on your own mountain--the place you have made as your home, O LORD, the sanctuary, O Lord, that your hands have made.

He drove out the nations before them; he gave them their inheritance by lot. He settled the tribes of Israel into their homes.

He struck down great nations and slaughtered mighty kings--
Sihon king of the Amorites, Og king of Bashan, and all the kings of Canaan.
He gave their land as an inheritance, a special possession to his people Israel.

You brought us from Egypt as though we were a tender vine; you drove away the pagan nations and transplanted us into your land.
You cleared the ground for us, and we took root and filled the land.
The mountains were covered with our shade; the mighty cedars were covered with our branches.
We spread our branches west to the Mediterranean Sea, our limbs east to the Euphrates River.

Today you will know that the living God is among you. He will surely drive out the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites, and Jebusites.

He gave his people the lands of pagan nations, and they harvested crops that others had planted.

So the LORD gave to Israel all the land he had sworn to give their ancestors, and they conquered it and settled there.

Give thanks to him who struck down mighty kings. His faithful love endures forever.
He killed powerful kings--His faithful love endures forever.
Sihon king of the Amorites, His faithful love endures forever.
and Og king of Bashan. His faithful love endures forever.
God gave the land of these kings as an inheritance--His faithful love endures forever.

When Pharaoh's horses, chariots, and charioteers rushed into the sea, the LORD brought the water crashing down on them. But the people of Israel had walked through on dry land!

"Then you helped our ancestors conquer great kingdoms and many nations, and you placed your people in every corner of the land. They completely took over the land of King Sihon of Heshbon and the land of King Og of Bashan.
You made their descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and brought them into the land you had promised to their ancestors.
They went in and took possession of the land. You subdued whole nations before them. Even the kings and the Canaanites, who inhabited the land, were powerless! Your people could deal with them as they pleased.
Our ancestors captured fortified cities and fertile land. They took over houses full of good things, with cisterns already dug and vineyards and olive groves and orchards in abundance. So they ate until they were full and grew fat and enjoyed themselves in all your blessings.
"But despite all this, they were disobedient and rebelled against you. They threw away your law, they killed the prophets who encouraged them to return to you, and they committed terrible blasphemies.

"When the LORD your God brings you into the land you are about to enter and occupy, he will clear away many nations ahead of you: the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites. These seven nations are all more powerful than you.

So Joshua took control of the entire land, just as the LORD had instructed Moses. He gave it to the people of Israel as their special possession, dividing the land among the tribes. So the land finally had rest from war.

So they spread discouraging reports about the land among the Israelites: "The land we explored will swallow up any who go to live there. All the people we saw were huge.

And I have provided a permanent homeland for my people Israel, a secure place where they will never be disturbed. It will be their own land where wicked nations won't oppress them as they did in the past,

Then the LORD began to afflict the people of Ashdod and the nearby villages with a plague of tumors.
When the people realized what was happening, they cried out, "We can't keep the Ark of the God of Israel here any longer! He is against us! We will all be destroyed along with our god Dagon."

And I sent hornets ahead of you to drive out the two kings of the Amorites. It was not your swords or bows that brought you victory.

Your responsibility is to obey all the commands I am giving you today. Then I will surely drive out all those who stand in your way--the Amorites, Canaanites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites.

In a single campaign Joshua conquered all these kings and their land, for the LORD, the God of Israel, was fighting for his people.

I will send hornets ahead of you to drive out the Hivites, Canaanites, and Hittites.

As the Amorites retreated down the road from Beth-horon, the LORD destroyed them with a terrible hailstorm that continued until they reached Azekah. The hail killed more of the enemy than the Israelites killed with the sword.
