10: In a little while, the wicked will disappear. Though you look for them, they will be gone.

And though they are great now, in a moment they will be gone like all others, withered like heads of grain.

The end of the world is coming soon. Therefore, be earnest and disciplined in your prayers.

They called loudly to the Lord and said, "O Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long will it be before you judge the people who belong to this world for what they have done to us? When will you avenge our blood against these people?"
Then a white robe was given to each of them. And they were told to rest a little longer until the full number of their brothers and sisters--their fellow servants of Jesus--had been martyred.

I myself have seen it happen--proud and evil people thriving like mighty trees.
But when I looked again, they were gone! Though I searched for them, I could not find them!

But God will strike you down once and for all. He will pull you from your home and drag you from the land of the living.

The godly will see these things and be glad, while the wicked are stricken silent.
Those who are wise will take all this to heart; they will see in our history the faithful love of the LORD.

Patient endurance is what you need now, so you will continue to do God's will. Then you will receive all that he has promised.
"For in just a little while, the Coming One will come and not delay.

Everyone there will stare at you and ask, `Can this be the one who shook the earth and the kingdoms of the world?
Is this the one who destroyed the world and made it into a wilderness? Is this the king who demolished the world's greatest cities and had no mercy on his prisoners?'
"The kings of the nations lie in stately glory in their tombs,
but you will be thrown out of your grave like a worthless branch. Like a corpse trampled underfoot, you will be dumped into a mass grave with those killed in battle. You will descend to the pit.

So they hanged Haman on the gallows he had set up for Mordecai, and the king's anger was pacified.
On that same day King Xerxes gave the estate of Haman, the enemy of the Jews, to Queen Esther. Then Mordecai was brought before the king, for Esther had told the king how they were related.

"Then the rich man said, 'Please, Father Abraham, send him to my father's home.
For I have five brothers, and I want him to warn them about this place of torment so they won't have to come here when they die.'

The godly will rejoice when they see injustice avenged. They will wash their feet in the blood of the wicked.
Then at last everyone will say, "There truly is a reward for those who live for God; surely there is a God who judges justly here on earth."

"But God said to him, 'You fool! You will die this very night. Then who will get it all?'
"Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God."

Jehu said to Bidkar, his officer, "Throw him into the field of Naboth of Jezreel. Do you remember when you and I were riding along behind his father, Ahab? The LORD pronounced this message against him:

Those who are wise must finally die, just like the foolish and senseless, leaving all their wealth behind.

"But when people die, they lose all strength. They breathe their last, and then where are they?

About ten days later, the LORD struck him and he died.
When David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, "Praise the LORD, who has paid back Nabal and kept me from doing it myself. Nabal has received the punishment for his sin." Then David wasted no time in sending messengers to Abigail to ask her to become his wife.

Then Jehu went into the palace and ate and drank. Afterward he said, "Someone go and bury this cursed woman, for she is the daughter of a king."
But when they went out to bury her, they found only her skull, her feet, and her hands.
When they returned and told Jehu, he stated, "This fulfills the message from the LORD, which he spoke through his servant Elijah from Tishbe: `At the plot of land in Jezreel, dogs will eat Jezebel's flesh.
Her body will be scattered like dung on the field of Jezreel, so that no one will be able to recognize her.'"

Why not just pardon my sin and take away my guilt? For soon I will lie down in the dust and die. When you look for me, I will be gone."

He will fade like a dream and not be found. He will vanish like a vision in the night.
Neither his friends nor his family will ever see him again.

Truly, you put them on a slippery path and send them sliding over the cliff to destruction.
In an instant they are destroyed, swept away by terrors.
Their present life is only a dream that is gone when they awake. When you arise, O Lord, you will make them vanish from this life.
