10: Their hands are dirty with wicked schemes, and they constantly take bribes.

You must never twist justice or show partiality. Never accept a bribe, for bribes blind the eyes of the wise and corrupt the decisions of the godly.

"Take no bribes, for a bribe makes you ignore something that you clearly see. A bribe always hurts the cause of the person who is in the right.

All day long you plot destruction. Your tongue cuts like a sharp razor; you're an expert at telling lies.

But they were not like their father, for they were greedy for money. They accepted bribes and perverted justice.

There are hired murderers, loan racketeers, and extortioners everywhere! They never even think of me and my commands, says the Sovereign LORD.
"But now I clap my hands in indignation over your dishonest gain and bloodshed.

The ones who can live here are those who are honest and fair, who reject making a profit by fraud, who stay far away from bribes, who refuse to listen to those who plot murder, who shut their eyes to all enticement to do wrong.

The next morning a group of Jews got together and bound themselves with an oath to neither eat nor drink until they had killed Paul.

They go about their evil deeds with both hands. How skilled they are at using them! Officials and judges alike demand bribes. The people with money and influence pay them off, and together they scheme to twist justice.

The wicked are stringing their bows and setting their arrows in the bowstrings. They shoot from the shadows at those who do right.

They lie awake at night, hatching sinful plots. Their course of action is never good. They make no attempt to turn from evil.

For I know the vast number of your sins and rebellions. You oppress good people by taking bribes and deprive the poor of justice in the courts.

Destroy them, Lord, and confuse their speech, for I see violence and strife in the city.
Its walls are patrolled day and night against invaders, but the real danger is wickedness within the city.
Murder and robbery are everywhere there; threats and cheating are rampant in the streets.

But you do see the trouble and grief they cause. You take note of it and punish them. The helpless put their trust in you. You are the defender of orphans.

At that same time the leading priests and other leaders were meeting at the residence of Caiaphas, the high priest,
to discuss how to capture Jesus secretly and put him to death.

How terrible it will be for you who lie awake at night, thinking up evil plans. You rise at dawn and hurry to carry out any of the wicked schemes you have power to accomplish.
When you want a certain piece of land, you find a way to seize it. When you want someone's house, you take it by fraud and violence. No one's family or inheritance is safe with you around!
But this is what the LORD says: "I will reward your evil with evil; you won't be able to escape! After I am through with you, none of you will ever again walk proudly in the streets."

for evil people cannot sleep until they have done their evil deed for the day. They cannot rest unless they have caused someone to stumble.
