Psalms 119:139

139: I am overwhelmed with rage, for my enemies have disregarded your words.

Passion for your house burns within me, so those who insult you are also insulting me.

Then his disciples remembered this prophecy from the Scriptures: "Passion for God's house burns within me."

Elijah replied, "I have zealously served the LORD God Almighty. But the people of Israel have broken their covenant with you, torn down your altars, and killed every one of your prophets. I alone am left, and now they are trying to kill me, too."

Will those who do evil never learn? They eat up my people like bread; they wouldn't think of praying to God.

Then Jesus asked them, "Didn't you ever read this in the Scriptures? 'The stone rejected by the builders has now become the cornerstone. This is the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous to see.'

For instance, God says, 'Honor your father and mother,' and 'Anyone who speaks evil of father or mother must be put to death.'
But you say, 'You don't need to honor your parents by caring for their needs if you give the money to God instead.'
And so, by your own tradition, you nullify the direct commandment of God.

He said, "The Scriptures declare, 'My Temple will be called a place of prayer,' but you have turned it into a den of thieves!"

and asked Jesus, "Do you hear what these children are saying?Yes," Jesus replied. "Haven't you ever read the Scriptures? For they say, 'You have taught children and infants to give you praise.'"

He replied again, "I have zealously served the LORD God Almighty. But the people of Israel have broken their covenant with you, torn down your altars, and killed every one of your prophets. I alone am left, and now they are trying to kill me, too."

But Jesus said to them, "Haven't you ever read in the Scriptures what King David did when he and his companions were hungry?
He went into the house of God, and they ate the special bread reserved for the priests alone. That was breaking the law, too.
And haven't you ever read in the law of Moses that the priests on duty in the Temple may work on the Sabbath?

So a time was set, and on that day a large number of people came to Paul's house. He told them about the Kingdom of God and taught them about Jesus from the Scriptures--from the five books of Moses and the books of the prophets. He began lecturing in the morning and went on into the evening.
Some believed and some didn't.
But after they had argued back and forth among themselves, they left with this final word from Paul: "The Holy Spirit was right when he said to our ancestors through Isaiah the prophet,
'Go and say to my people, You will hear my words, but you will not understand; you will see what I do, but you will not perceive its meaning.
For the hearts of these people are hardened, and their ears cannot hear, and they have closed their eyes--so their eyes cannot see, and their ears cannot hear, and their hearts cannot understand, and they cannot turn to me and let me heal them.'

Jesus replied, "Your problem is that you don't know the Scriptures, and you don't know the power of God.

The people in Jerusalem and their leaders fulfilled prophecy by condemning Jesus to death. They didn't recognize him or realize that he is the one the prophets had written about, though they hear the prophets' words read every Sabbath.

Then he added, "Now go and learn the meaning of this Scripture: 'I want you to be merciful; I don't want your sacrifices.' For I have come to call sinners, not those who think they are already good enough."
