4: Then I called on the name of the LORD: "Please, LORD, save me!"

I reach out for you. I thirst for you as parched land thirsts for rain.
Come quickly, LORD, and answer me, for my depression deepens. Don't turn away from me, or I will die.
Let me hear of your unfailing love to me in the morning, for I am trusting you. Show me where to walk, for I have come to you in prayer.
Save me from my enemies, LORD; I run to you to hide me.

Your favor, O LORD, made me as secure as a mountain. Then you turned away from me, and I was shattered.
I cried out to you, O LORD. I begged the Lord for mercy, saying,

About that time Hezekiah became deathly ill, and the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to visit him. He gave the king this message: "This is what the LORD says: Set your affairs in order, for you are going to die. You will not recover from this illness."
When Hezekiah heard this, he turned his face to the wall and prayed to the LORD,
"Remember, O LORD, how I have always tried to be faithful to you and do what is pleasing in your sight." Then he broke down and wept bitterly.

And Hezekiah prayed this prayer before the LORD:
"O LORD Almighty, God of Israel, you are enthroned between the mighty cherubim! You alone are God of all the kingdoms of the earth. You alone created the heavens and the earth.
Listen to me, O LORD, and hear! Open your eyes, O LORD, and see! Listen to Sennacherib's words of defiance against the living God.
"It is true, LORD, that the kings of Assyria have destroyed all these nations, just as the message says.
And they have thrown the gods of these nations into the fire and burned them. But of course the Assyrians could destroy them! They were not gods at all--only idols of wood and stone shaped by human hands.

For troubles surround me--too many to count! They pile up so high I can't see my way out. They are more numerous than the hairs on my head. I have lost all my courage.
Please, LORD, rescue me! Come quickly, LORD, and help me.

My God, my God! Why have you forsaken me? Why do you remain so distant? Why do you ignore my cries for help?
Every day I call to you, my God, but you do not answer. Every night you hear my voice, but I find no relief.
Yet you are holy. The praises of Israel surround your throne.

"But the tax collector stood at a distance and dared not even lift his eyes to heaven as he prayed. Instead, he beat his chest in sorrow, saying, 'O God, be merciful to me, for I am a sinner.'

I cried out to the LORD in my suffering, and he heard me. He set me free from all my fears.

Trust me in your times of trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory."

But while in deep distress, Manasseh sought the LORD his God and cried out humbly to the God of his ancestors.
And when he prayed, the LORD listened to him and was moved by his request for help. So the LORD let Manasseh return to Jerusalem and to his kingdom. Manasseh had finally realized that the LORD alone is God!

But in my distress I cried out to the LORD; yes, I prayed to my God for help. He heard me from his sanctuary; my cry reached his ears.

I look for someone to come and help me, but no one gives me a passing thought! No one will help me; no one cares a bit what happens to me.
Then I pray to you, O LORD. I say, "You are my place of refuge. You are all I really want in life.
Hear my cry, for I am very low. Rescue me from my persecutors, for they are too strong for me.
