Daniel 6:10
- But when Daniel learned that the law had been signed, he went home and knelt down as usual in his upstairs room, with its windows open toward Jerusalem. He prayed three times a day, just as he had always done, giving thanks to his God.
- The officials went together to Daniel's house and found him praying and asking for God's help.
- So they went back to the king and reminded him about his law. "Did you not sign a law that for the next thirty days anyone who prays to anyone, divine or human--except to Your Majesty--will be thrown to the lions?Yes," the king replied, "that decision stands; it is a law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be revoked."
- Then they told the king, "That man Daniel, one of the captives from Judah, is paying no attention to you or your law. He still prays to his God three times a day."
- Hearing this, the king was very angry with himself for signing the law, and he tried to find a way to save Daniel. He spent the rest of the day looking for a way to get Daniel out of this predicament.
2 Kings 22:12
- Then he gave these orders to Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam son of Shaphan, Acbor son of Micaiah, Shaphan the court secretary, and Asaiah the king's personal adviser:
- "Go to the Temple and speak to the LORD for me and for the people and for all Judah. Ask him about the words written in this scroll that has been found. The LORD's anger is burning against us because our ancestors have not obeyed the words in this scroll. We have not been doing what this scroll says we must do."
- So Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam, Acbor, Shaphan, and Asaiah went to the newer Mishneh section of Jerusalem to consult with the prophet Huldah. She was the wife of Shallum son of Tikvah and grandson of Harhas, the keeper of the Temple wardrobe.
Jeremiah 26:11
- The priests and prophets presented their accusations to the officials and the people. "This man should die!" they said. "You have heard with your own ears what a traitor he is, for he has prophesied against this city."
- Then Jeremiah spoke in his own defense. "The LORD sent me to prophesy against this Temple and this city," he said. "The LORD gave me every word that I have spoken.
- But if you stop your sinning and begin to obey the LORD your God, he will cancel this disaster that he has announced against you.
- As for me, I am helpless and in your power--do with me as you think best.
- But if you kill me, rest assured that you will be killing an innocent man! The responsibility for such a deed will lie on you, on this city, and on every person living in it. For it is absolutely true that the LORD sent me to speak every word you have heard."
Acts 4:5
- The next day the council of all the rulers and elders and teachers of religious law met in Jerusalem.
- Annas the high priest was there, along with Caiaphas, John, Alexander, and other relatives of the high priest.
- They brought in the two disciples and demanded, "By what power, or in whose name, have you done this?"
- Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "Leaders and elders of our nation,
- are we being questioned because we've done a good deed for a crippled man? Do you want to know how he was healed?
