19: Putting confidence in an unreliable person is like chewing with a toothache or walking on a broken foot.

Will Egypt? If you lean on Egypt, you will find it to be a stick that breaks beneath your weight and pierces your hand. The Pharaoh of Egypt is completely unreliable!

So when King Tiglath-pileser of Assyria arrived, he oppressed King Ahaz instead of helping him.
Ahaz took valuable items from the LORD's Temple, the royal palace, and from the homes of his officials and gave them to the king of Assyria as tribute. But even this did not help him.

"All the people of Egypt will discover that I am the LORD, for you collapsed like a reed when Israel looked to you for help.
Israel leaned on you, but like a cracked staff, you splintered and stabbed her in the armpit. When she put her weight on you, you gave way, and her back was thrown out of joint.

"One should be kind to a fainting friend, but you have accused me without the slightest fear of the Almighty.
My brother, you have proved as unreliable as a seasonal brook that overflows its banks in the spring
when it is swollen with ice and melting snow.
But when the hot weather arrives, the water disappears. The brook vanishes in the heat.
The caravans turn aside to be refreshed, but there is nothing there to drink, and so they perish in the desert.

"Destruction is certain for my rebellious children," says the LORD. "You make plans that are contrary to my will. You weave a web of plans that are not from my Spirit, thus piling up your sins.
For without consulting me, you have gone down to Egypt to find help. You have put your trust in Pharaoh for his protection.
But in trusting Pharaoh, you will be humiliated and disgraced.

The first time I was brought before the judge, no one was with me. Everyone had abandoned me. I hope it will not be counted against them.
