Proverbs 12:26

26: The godly give good advice to their friends; the wicked lead them astray.

If you love only those who love you, what good is that? Even corrupt tax collectors do that much.
If you are kind only to your friends, how are you different from anyone else? Even pagans do that.
But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect.

This great dragon--the ancient serpent called the Devil, or Satan, the one deceiving the whole world--was thrown down to the earth with all his angels.

And with all the miracles he was allowed to perform on behalf of the first beast, he deceived all the people who belong to this world. He ordered the people of the world to make a great statue of the first beast, who was fatally wounded and then came back to life.

A truly wise person uses few words; a person with understanding is even-tempered.

They brag about themselves with empty, foolish boasting. With lustful desire as their bait, they lure back into sin those who have just escaped from such wicked living.
They promise freedom, but they themselves are slaves to sin and corruption. For you are a slave to whatever controls you.
And when people escape from the wicked ways of the world by learning about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and then get tangled up with sin and become its slave again, they are worse off than before.
It would be better if they had never known the right way to live than to know it and then reject the holy commandments that were given to them.
They make these proverbs come true: "A dog returns to its vomit," and "A washed pig returns to the mud."

And remember, no one who wants to do wrong should ever say, "God is tempting me." God is never tempted to do wrong, and he never tempts anyone else either.
Temptation comes from the lure of our own evil desires.

"Do you think you deserve credit merely for loving those who love you? Even the sinners do that!
And if you do good only to those who do good to you, is that so wonderful? Even sinners do that much!
And if you lend money only to those who can repay you, what good is that? Even sinners will lend to their own kind for a full return.
"Love your enemies! Do good to them! Lend to them! And don't be concerned that they might not repay. Then your reward from heaven will be very great, and you will truly be acting as children of the Most High, for he is kind to the unthankful and to those who are wicked.
You must be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate.

The brilliance of his presence broke through the clouds, raining down hail and burning coals.
The LORD thundered from heaven; the Most High gave a mighty shout.

You who are slaves must accept the authority of your masters. Do whatever they tell you--not only if they are kind and reasonable, but even if they are harsh.
For God is pleased with you when, for the sake of your conscience, you patiently endure unfair treatment.
Of course, you get no credit for being patient if you are beaten for doing wrong. But if you suffer for doing right and are patient beneath the blows, God is pleased with you.
This suffering is all part of what God has called you to. Christ, who suffered for you, is your example. Follow in his steps.

I have written these things to you because you need to be aware of those who want to lead you astray.
