21: The Israelites now sent ambassadors to King Sihon of the Amorites with this message:
Deuteronomy 2:26
- "Then from the wilderness of Kedemoth I sent ambassadors to King Sihon of Heshbon with this proposal of peace:
- `Let us pass through your land. We will stay on the main road and won't turn off into the fields on either side.
- We will pay for every bite of food we eat and all the water we drink. All we want is permission to pass through your land.
Judges 11:19
- "Then Israel sent messengers to King Sihon of the Amorites, who ruled from Heshbon, asking for permission to cross through his land to get to their destination.
- But King Sihon didn't trust Israel to pass through his land. Instead, he mobilized his army at Jahaz and attacked them.

- and that our ancestors went down to Egypt. We lived there a long time and suffered as slaves to the Egyptians.
- But when we cried out to the LORD, he heard us and sent an angel who brought us out of Egypt. Now we are camped at Kadesh, a town on the border of your land.
- Please let us pass through your country. We will be careful not to go through your fields and vineyards. We won't even drink water from your wells. We will stay on the king's road and never leave it until we have crossed the opposite border."
- But the king of Edom said, "Stay out of my land or I will meet you with an army!"
