Nehemiah 9:18

18: even though they made an idol shaped like a calf and said, 'This is your god who brought you out of Egypt!' They sinned and committed terrible blasphemies.

Psalms 106:19

  1. The people made a calf at Mount Sinai; they bowed before an image made of gold.
  2. They traded their glorious God for a statue of a grass-eating ox!
  3. They forgot God, their savior, who had done such great things in Egypt--
  4. such wonderful things in that land, such awesome deeds at the Red Sea.
  5. So he declared he would destroy them. But Moses, his chosen one, stepped between the LORD and the people. He begged him to turn from his anger and not destroy them.

Exodus 32:4

  1. Then Aaron took the gold, melted it down, and molded and tooled it into the shape of a calf. The people exclaimed, "O Israel, these are the gods who brought you out of Egypt!"
  2. When Aaron saw how excited the people were about it, he built an altar in front of the calf and announced, "Tomorrow there will be a festival to the LORD!"
  3. So the people got up early the next morning to sacrifice burnt offerings and peace offerings. After this, they celebrated with feasting and drinking, and indulged themselves in pagan revelry.
  4. Then the LORD told Moses, "Quick! Go down the mountain! The people you brought from Egypt have defiled themselves.
  5. They have already turned from the way I commanded them to live. They have made an idol shaped like a calf, and they have worshiped and sacrificed to it. They are saying, `These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you out of Egypt.'"

Deuteronomy 9:12

  1. Then the LORD said to me, `Go down immediately because the people you led out of Egypt have become corrupt. They have already turned from the way I commanded them to live and have cast an idol for themselves from gold.'
  2. "The LORD said to me, `I have been watching this people, and they are extremely stubborn.
  3. Leave me alone so I may destroy them and erase their name from under heaven. Then I will make a mighty nation of your descendants, a nation larger and more powerful than they are.'
  4. "So I came down from the fiery mountain, holding in my hands the two stone tablets of the covenant.
  5. There below me I could see the gold calf you had made in your terrible sin against the LORD your God. How quickly you had turned from the path the LORD had commanded you to follow!

Ezekiel 20:7

  1. Then I said to them, `Each of you, get rid of your idols. Do not defile yourselves with the Egyptian gods, for I am the LORD your God.'
  2. "But they rebelled against me and would not listen. They did not get rid of their idols or forsake the gods of Egypt. Then I threatened to pour out my fury on them to satisfy my anger while they were still in Egypt.
  3. But I didn't do it, for I acted to protect the honor of my name. That way the surrounding nations wouldn't be able to laugh at Israel's God, who had promised to deliver his people.
  4. So I brought my people out of Egypt and led them into the wilderness.
  5. There I gave them my laws so they could live by keeping them. Yes, all those who keep them will live!

Exodus 32:31

  1. So Moses returned to the LORD and said, "Alas, these people have committed a terrible sin. They have made gods of gold for themselves.
  2. But now, please forgive their sin--and if not, then blot me out of the record you are keeping."
