Luke 7:37
- A certain immoral woman heard he was there and brought a beautiful jar filled with expensive perfume.
- Then she knelt behind him at his feet, weeping. Her tears fell on his feet, and she wiped them off with her hair. Then she kept kissing his feet and putting perfume on them.
- When the Pharisee who was the host saw what was happening and who the woman was, he said to himself, "This proves that Jesus is no prophet. If God had really sent him, he would know what kind of woman is touching him. She's a sinner!"

- Meanwhile, Jesus was in Bethany at the home of Simon, a man who had leprosy. During supper, a woman came in with a beautiful jar of expensive perfume. She broke the seal and poured the perfume over his head.
- Some of those at the table were indignant. "Why was this expensive perfume wasted?" they asked.
- "She could have sold it for a small fortune and given the money to the poor!" And they scolded her harshly.
- But Jesus replied, "Leave her alone. Why berate her for doing such a good thing to me?
- You will always have the poor among you, and you can help them whenever you want to. But I will not be here with you much longer.

- A man named Lazarus was sick. He lived in Bethany with his sisters, Mary and Martha.
- This is the Mary who poured the expensive perfume on the Lord's feet and wiped them with her hair. Her brother, Lazarus, was sick.

- Six days before the Passover ceremonies began, Jesus arrived in Bethany, the home of Lazarus--the man he had raised from the dead.
- A dinner was prepared in Jesus' honor. Martha served, and Lazarus sat at the table with him.
- Then Mary took a twelve-ounce jar of expensive perfume made from essence of nard, and she anointed Jesus' feet with it and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with fragrance.
- But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples--the one who would betray him--said,
- "That perfume was worth a small fortune. It should have been sold and the money given to the poor."

- The next morning as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus felt hungry.
