37: "When the Son of Man returns, it will be like it was in Noah's day.

"When the Son of Man returns, the world will be like the people were in Noah's day.
In those days before the flood, the people enjoyed banquets and parties and weddings right up to the time Noah entered his boat and the flood came to destroy them all.

It was by faith that Noah built an ark to save his family from the flood. He obeyed God, who warned him about something that had never happened before. By his faith he condemned the rest of the world and was made right in God's sight.

When the human population began to grow rapidly on the earth,
the sons of God saw the beautiful women of the human race and took any they wanted as their wives.
Then the LORD said, "My Spirit will not put up with humans for such a long time, for they are only mortal flesh. In the future, they will live no more than 120 years."
In those days, and even afterward, giants lived on the earth, for whenever the sons of God had intercourse with human women, they gave birth to children who became the heroes mentioned in legends of old.
Now the LORD observed the extent of the people's wickedness, and he saw that all their thoughts were consistently and totally evil.

And God did not spare the ancient world--except for Noah and his family of seven. Noah warned the world of God's righteous judgment. Then God destroyed the whole world of ungodly people with a vast flood.

He was 600 years old when the flood came,
and he went aboard the boat to escape--he and his wife and his sons and their wives.
With them were all the various kinds of animals--those approved for eating and sacrifice and those that were not--along with all the birds and other small animals.
They came into the boat in pairs, male and female, just as God had commanded Noah.
One week later, the flood came and covered the earth.

those who disobeyed God long ago when God waited patiently while Noah was building his boat. Only eight people were saved from drowning in that terrible flood.
And this is a picture of baptism, which now saves you by the power of Jesus Christ's resurrection. Baptism is not a removal of dirt from your body; it is an appeal to God from a clean conscience.

"Will you continue on the old paths where evil people have walked?
They were snatched away in the prime of life, and the foundations of their lives were washed away forever.
For they said to God, `Leave us alone! What can the Almighty do for us?'

People didn't realize what was going to happen until the Flood came and swept them all away. That is the way it will be when the Son of Man comes.
