Matthew 23:3

3: So practice and obey whatever they say to you, but don't follow their example. For they don't practice what they teach.

Such people claim they know God, but they deny him by the way they live. They are despicable and disobedient, worthless for doing anything good.

They will act as if they are religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. You must stay away from people like that.

If you follow this advice, and if God directs you to do so, then you will be able to endure the pressures, and all these people will go home in peace."

Obey the government, for God is the one who put it there. All governments have been placed in power by God.

"Why do your disciples disobey our age-old traditions?" they demanded. "They ignore our tradition of ceremonial hand washing before they eat."
Jesus replied, "And why do you, by your traditions, violate the direct commandments of God?
For instance, God says, 'Honor your father and mother,' and 'Anyone who speaks evil of father or mother must be put to death.'
But you say, 'You don't need to honor your parents by caring for their needs if you give the money to God instead.'
And so, by your own tradition, you nullify the direct commandment of God.

"You must obey these laws and regulations when you arrive in the land you are about to enter and occupy. The LORD my God gave them to me and commanded me to pass them on to you.

But God says to the wicked: "Recite my laws no longer, and don't pretend that you obey me.
For you refuse my discipline and treat my laws like trash.
When you see a thief, you help him, and you spend your time with adulterers.
Your mouths are filled with wickedness, and your tongues are full of lies.
You sit around and slander a brother--your own mother's son.

At the same time, God's hand was on the people in the land of Judah, giving them a strong desire to unite in obeying the orders of the king and his officials, who were following the word of the LORD.

You are convinced that you are a guide for the blind and a beacon light for people who are lost in darkness without God.
You think you can instruct the ignorant and teach children the ways of God. For you are certain that in God's law you have complete knowledge and truth.
Well then, if you teach others, why don't you teach yourself? You tell others not to steal, but do you steal?
You say it is wrong to commit adultery, but do you do it? You condemn idolatry, but do you steal from pagan temples?
You are so proud of knowing the law, but you dishonor God by breaking it.

Then the father told the other son, 'You go,' and he said, 'Yes, sir, I will.' But he didn't go.

But Peter and the apostles replied, "We must obey God rather than human authority.

Now let me give you a word of advice, and may God be with you. You should continue to be the people's representative before God, bringing him their questions to be decided.
You should tell them God's decisions, teach them God's laws and instructions, and show them how to conduct their lives.

where the Levitical priests and the judge on duty will hear the case and decide what to do.
The decision they make at the place the LORD chooses will always stand. You must do exactly what they say.
After they have interpreted the law and reached a verdict, the sentence they impose must be fully executed; do not modify it in any way.
Anyone arrogant enough to reject the verdict of the judge or of the priest who represents the LORD your God must be put to death. Such evil must be purged from Israel.

You go and listen to what the LORD our God says. Then come and tell us everything he tells you, and we will listen and obey.'
