39: So they grabbed him, took him out of the vineyard, and murdered him.

But you followed God's prearranged plan. With the help of lawless Gentiles, you nailed him to the cross and murdered him.

Then Jesus spoke to the leading priests and captains of the Temple guard and the other leaders who headed the mob. "Am I some dangerous criminal," he asked, "that you have come armed with swords and clubs to arrest me?
Why didn't you arrest me in the Temple? I was there every day. But this is your moment, the time when the power of darkness reigns."
So they arrested him and led him to the high priest's residence, and Peter was following far behind.

Let me clearly state to you and to all the people of Israel that he was healed in the name and power of Jesus Christ from Nazareth, the man you crucified, but whom God raised from the dead.

Under the system of Jewish laws, the high priest brought the blood of animals into the Holy Place as a sacrifice for sin, but the bodies of the animals were burned outside the camp.
So also Jesus suffered and died outside the city gates in order to make his people holy by shedding his own blood.
So let us go out to him outside the camp and bear the disgrace he bore.

Then the others grabbed Jesus and arrested him.
But someone pulled out a sword and slashed off an ear of the high priest's servant.
Jesus asked them, "Am I some dangerous criminal, that you come armed with swords and clubs to arrest me?
Why didn't you arrest me in the Temple? I was there teaching every day. But these things are happening to fulfill what the Scriptures say about me."
Meanwhile, all his disciples deserted him and ran away.

Then the people who had arrested Jesus led him to the home of Caiaphas, the high priest, where the teachers of religious law and other leaders had gathered.

You have condemned and killed good people who had no power to defend themselves against you.

Name one prophet your ancestors didn't persecute! They even killed the ones who predicted the coming of the Righteous One--the Messiah whom you betrayed and murdered.

So the soldiers, their commanding officer, and the Temple guards arrested Jesus and tied him up.

You rejected this holy, righteous one and instead demanded the release of a murderer.
You killed the author of life, but God raised him to life. And we are witnesses of this fact!

The God of our ancestors raised Jesus from the dead after you killed him by crucifying him.

Jesus said, "My friend, go ahead and do what you have come for." Then the others grabbed Jesus and arrested him.
