30: But when he looked around at the high waves, he was terrified and began to sink. "Save me, Lord!" he shouted.

The first time I was brought before the judge, no one was with me. Everyone had abandoned me. I hope it will not be counted against them.
But the Lord stood with me and gave me strength, that I might preach the Good News in all its fullness for all the Gentiles to hear. And he saved me from certain death.

Keep alert and pray. Otherwise temptation will overpower you. For though the spirit is willing enough, the body is weak."

Meanwhile, as Simon Peter was standing by the fire, they asked him again, "Aren't you one of his disciples?I am not," he said.
But one of the household servants of the high priest, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, asked, "Didn't I see you out there in the olive grove with Jesus?"
Again Peter denied it. And immediately a rooster crowed.

He said, "I cried out to the LORD in my great trouble, and he answered me. I called to you from the world of the dead, and LORD, you heard me!
You threw me into the ocean depths, and I sank down to the heart of the sea. I was buried beneath your wild and stormy waves.
Then I said, `O LORD, you have driven me from your presence. How will I ever again see your holy Temple?'
"I sank beneath the waves, and death was very near. The waters closed in around me, and seaweed wrapped itself around my head.
I sank down to the very roots of the mountains. I was locked out of life and imprisoned in the land of the dead. But you, O LORD my God, have snatched me from the yawning jaws of death!

When the servant of the man of God got up early the next morning and went outside, there were troops, horses, and chariots everywhere. "Ah, my lord, what will we do now?" he cried out to Elisha.

Meanwhile, Peter was below in the courtyard. One of the servant girls who worked for the high priest
noticed Peter warming himself at the fire. She looked at him closely and then said, "You were one of those with Jesus, the Nazarene."
Peter denied it. "I don't know what you're talking about," he said, and he went out into the entryway. Just then, a rooster crowed.
The servant girl saw him standing there and began telling the others, "That man is definitely one of them!"
Peter denied it again. A little later some other bystanders began saying to Peter, "You must be one of them because you are from Galilee."

Arise, O LORD! Rescue me, my God! Slap all my enemies in the face! Shatter the teeth of the wicked!

Death had its hands around my throat; the terrors of the grave overtook me. I saw only trouble and sorrow.
Then I called on the name of the LORD: "Please, LORD, save me!"

So they arrested him and led him to the high priest's residence, and Peter was following far behind.
The guards lit a fire in the courtyard and sat around it, and Peter joined them there.
A servant girl noticed him in the firelight and began staring at him. Finally she said, "This man was one of Jesus' followers!"
Peter denied it. "Woman," he said, "I don't even know the man!"
After a while someone else looked at him and said, "You must be one of them!No, man, I'm not!" Peter replied.

Suddenly, a terrible storm came up, with waves breaking into the boat. But Jesus was sleeping.
The disciples went to him and woke him up, shouting, "Lord, save us! We're going to drown!"

even though I have received wonderful revelations from God. But to keep me from getting puffed up, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger from Satan to torment me and keep me from getting proud.
Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away.
Each time he said, "My gracious favor is all you need. My power works best in your weakness." So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may work through me.
Since I know it is all for Christ's good, I am quite content with my weaknesses and with insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Meanwhile, as Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard, a servant girl came over and said to him, "You were one of those with Jesus the Galilean."
But Peter denied it in front of everyone. "I don't know what you are talking about," he said.
Later, out by the gate, another servant girl noticed him and said to those standing around, "This man was with Jesus of Nazareth."
Again Peter denied it, this time with an oath. "I don't even know the man," he said.
A little later some other bystanders came over to him and said, "You must be one of them; we can tell by your Galilean accent."

Save me, O God, for the floodwaters are up to my neck.
Deeper and deeper I sink into the mire; I can't find a foothold to stand on. I am in deep water, and the floods overwhelm me.

They reeled and staggered like drunkards and were at their wits' end.
"LORD, help!" they cried in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress.
He calmed the storm to a whisper and stilled the waves.
What a blessing was that stillness as he brought them safely into harbor!
