Matthew 1:2

2: Abraham was the father of Isaac. Isaac was the father of Jacob. Jacob was the father of Judah and his brothers.

Acts 7:8

  1. God also gave Abraham the covenant of circumcision at that time. And so Isaac, Abraham's son, was circumcised when he was eight days old. Isaac became the father of Jacob, and Jacob was the father of the twelve patriarchs of the Jewish nation.

Hebrews 11:17

1 Chronicles 5:1

  1. The oldest son of Israel was Reuben. But since he dishonored his father by sleeping with one of his father's concubines, his birthright was given to the sons of his brother Joseph. For this reason, Reuben is not listed in the genealogy as the firstborn son.
  2. It was the descendants of Judah that became the most powerful tribe and provided a ruler for the nation, but the birthright belonged to Joseph.

Genesis 49:8

  4. Rachel named him Naphtali, for she said, "I have had an intense struggle with my sister, and I am winning!"
  5. Meanwhile, Leah realized that she wasn't getting pregnant anymore, so she gave her servant, Zilpah, to Jacob to be his wife.

Genesis 46:8

  1. These are the names of the Israelites, the descendants of Jacob, who went with him to Egypt: Reuben was Jacob's oldest son.
  2. The sons of Reuben were Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.
  3. The sons of Simeon were Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jakin, Zohar, and Shaul. (Shaul's mother was a Canaanite woman.)

Hebrews 11:11

  1. It was by faith that Sarah together with Abraham was able to have a child, even though they were too old and Sarah was barren. Abraham believed that God would keep his promise.

Genesis 35:16

  1. Leaving Bethel, they traveled on toward Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem). But Rachel's pains of childbirth began while they were still some distance away.
  2. After a very hard delivery, the midwife finally exclaimed, "Don't be afraid--you have another son!"
  3. Rachel was about to die, but with her last breath she named him Ben-oni; the baby's father, however, called him Benjamin.
  4. So Rachel died and was buried on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem).

Romans 9:7

  1. Just the fact that they are descendants of Abraham doesn't make them truly Abraham's children. For the Scriptures say, "Isaac is the son through whom your descendants will be counted," though Abraham had other children, too.
  2. This means that Abraham's physical descendants are not necessarily children of God. It is the children of the promise who are considered to be Abraham's children.
  3. For God had promised, "Next year I will return, and Sarah will have a son."
  4. This son was our ancestor Isaac. When he grew up, he married Rebekah, who gave birth to twins.
  5. But before they were born, before they had done anything good or bad, she received a message from God. (This message proves that God chooses according to his own plan,
