3: Four men arrived carrying a paralyzed man on a mat.
Luke 5:18
- Some men came carrying a paralyzed man on a sleeping mat. They tried to push through the crowd to Jesus,
- but they couldn't reach him. So they went up to the roof, took off some tiles, and lowered the sick man down into the crowd, still on his mat, right in front of Jesus.
- Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the man, "Son, your sins are forgiven."
- "Who does this man think he is?" the Pharisees and teachers of religious law said to each other. "This is blasphemy! Who but God can forgive sins?"
- Jesus knew what they were thinking, so he asked them, "Why do you think this is blasphemy?
Matthew 9:1
- Jesus climbed into a boat and went back across the lake to his own town.
- Some people brought to him a paralyzed man on a mat. Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, "Take heart, son! Your sins are forgiven."
- "Blasphemy! This man talks like he is God!" some of the teachers of religious law said among themselves.
- Jesus knew what they were thinking, so he asked them, "Why are you thinking such evil thoughts?
- Is it easier to say, 'Your sins are forgiven' or 'Get up and walk'?
Matthew 4:24
- News about him spread far beyond the borders of Galilee so that the sick were soon coming to be healed from as far away as Syria. And whatever their illness and pain, or if they were possessed by demons, or were epileptics, or were paralyzed--he healed them all.
