John 19:31

  1. The Jewish leaders didn't want the victims hanging there the next day, which was the Sabbath (and a very special Sabbath at that, because it was the Passover), so they asked Pilate to hasten their deaths by ordering that their legs be broken. Then their bodies could be taken down.

Luke 23:50

  1. Now there was a good and righteous man named Joseph. He was a member of the Jewish high council,
  2. but he had not agreed with the decision and actions of the other religious leaders. He was from the town of Arimathea in Judea, and he had been waiting for the Kingdom of God to come.

  4. Then he took the body down from the cross and wrapped it in a long linen cloth and laid it in a new tomb that had been carved out of rock.

  3. Together they wrapped Jesus' body in a long linen cloth with the spices, as is the Jewish custom of burial.
  4. The place of crucifixion was near a garden, where there was a new tomb, never used before.
  5. And so, because it was the day of preparation before the Passover and since the tomb was close at hand, they laid Jesus there.

Matthew 27:57

  1. As evening approached, Joseph, a rich man from Arimathea who was one of Jesus' followers,
  2. went to Pilate and asked for Jesus' body. And Pilate issued an order to release it to him.
  3. Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a long linen cloth.
  4. He placed it in his own new tomb, which had been carved out of the rock. Then he rolled a great stone across the entrance as he left.
  5. Both Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were sitting nearby watching.
