36: Amazed, the people exclaimed, "What authority and power this man's words possess! Even evil spirits obey him and flee at his command!"

There, too, the people were amazed at the things he said, because he spoke with authority.

When the seventy-two disciples returned, they joyfully reported to him, "Lord, even the demons obey us when we use your name!"
"Yes," he told them, "I saw Satan falling from heaven as a flash of lightning!
And I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you.
But don't rejoice just because evil spirits obey you; rejoice because your names are registered as citizens of heaven."

Now Christ has gone to heaven. He is seated in the place of honor next to God, and all the angels and authorities and powers are bowing before him.

These signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak new languages.
They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won't hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on the sick and heal them."
When the Lord Jesus had finished talking with them, he was taken up into heaven and sat down in the place of honor at God's right hand.
And the disciples went everywhere and preached, and the Lord worked with them, confirming what they said by many miraculous signs.

Amazement gripped the audience, and they began to discuss what had happened. "What sort of new teaching is this?" they asked excitedly. "It has such authority! Even evil spirits obey his orders!"

so that even when handkerchiefs or cloths that had touched his skin were placed on sick people, they were healed of their diseases, and any evil spirits within them came out.
A team of Jews who were traveling from town to town casting out evil spirits tried to use the name of the Lord Jesus. The incantation they used was this: "I command you by Jesus, whom Paul preaches, to come out!"
Seven sons of Sceva, a leading priest, were doing this.
But when they tried it on a man possessed by an evil spirit, the spirit replied, "I know Jesus, and I know Paul. But who are you?"
And he leaped on them and attacked them with such violence that they fled from the house, naked and badly injured.

So Jesus cast out the demon, and instantly the man could talk. The crowds marveled. "Nothing like this has ever happened in Israel!" they exclaimed.

for they were completely amazed. Again and again they said, "Everything he does is wonderful. He even heals those who are deaf and mute."

Then a demon-possessed man, who was both blind and unable to talk, was brought to Jesus. He healed the man so that he could both speak and see.
The crowd was amazed. "Could it be that Jesus is the Son of David, the Messiah?" they wondered out loud.
