13: "What horrors await you, Korazin and Bethsaida! For if the miracles I did in you had been done in wicked Tyre and Sidon, their people would have sat in deep repentance long ago, clothed in sackcloth and throwing ashes on their heads to show their remorse.
Isaiah 23:1
- This message came to me concerning Tyre: Weep, O ships of Tarshish, returning home from distant lands! Weep for your harbor at Tyre because it is gone! The rumors you heard in Cyprus are all true.
- Mourn in silence, you people of the coast and you merchants of Sidon. Your traders crossed the sea,
- sailing over deep waters. They brought you grain from Egypt and harvests from along the Nile. You were the merchandise mart of the world.
- But now you are put to shame, city of Sidon, fortress on the sea. For the sea says, "Now I am childless; I have no sons or daughters."
- When Egypt hears the news about Tyre, there will be great sorrow.
Joel 3:4
- "What do you have against me, Tyre and Sidon and you cities of Philistia? Are you trying to take revenge on me? If you are, then watch out! I will strike swiftly and pay you back for everything you have done.
- You have taken my silver and gold and all my precious treasures, and you have carried them off to your pagan temples.
- You have sold the people of Judah and Jerusalem to the Greeks, who took them far from their homeland.
- But I will bring them back again from all these places to which you sold them, and I will pay you back for all you have done.

Ezekiel 26:1
- On February 3, during the twelfth year of King Jehoiachin's captivity, this message came to me from the LORD:
- "Son of man, Tyre has rejoiced over the fall of Jerusalem, saying, `Ha! She who controlled the rich trade routes to the east has been broken, and I am the heir! Because she has been destroyed, I will become wealthy!'
- "Therefore, this is what the Sovereign LORD says: I am your enemy, O Tyre, and I will bring many nations against you, like the waves of the sea crashing against your shoreline.
- They will destroy the walls of Tyre and tear down its towers. I will scrape away its soil and make it a bare rock!
- The island of Tyre will become uninhabited. It will be a place for fishermen to spread their nets, for I have spoken, says the Sovereign LORD. Tyre will become the prey of many nations,
Romans 11:8
- As the Scriptures say, "God has put them into a deep sleep. To this very day he has shut their eyes so they do not see, and closed their ears so they do not hear."
- David spoke of this same thing when he said, "Let their bountiful table become a snare, a trap that makes them think all is well. Let their blessings cause them to stumble.
- Let their eyes go blind so they cannot see, and let their backs grow weaker and weaker."
- Did God's people stumble and fall beyond recovery? Of course not! His purpose was to make his salvation available to the Gentiles, and then the Jews would be jealous and want it for themselves.
John 3:5
- Jesus replied, "The truth is, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit.
- Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives new life from heaven.
Luke 9:10
- When the apostles returned, they told Jesus everything they had done. Then he slipped quietly away with them toward the town of Bethsaida.
- But the crowds found out where he was going, and they followed him. And he welcomed them, teaching them about the Kingdom of God and curing those who were ill.
- Late in the afternoon the twelve disciples came to him and said, "Send the crowds away to the nearby villages and farms, so they can find food and lodging for the night. There is nothing to eat here in this deserted place."
- But Jesus said, "You feed them.Impossible!" they protested. "We have only five loaves of bread and two fish. Or are you expecting us to go and buy enough food for this whole crowd?"
- For there were about five thousand men there. "Just tell them to sit down on the ground in groups of about fifty each," Jesus replied.
1 Timothy 4:2
- These teachers are hypocrites and liars. They pretend to be religious, but their consciences are dead.
Romans 9:29
- And Isaiah said in another place, "If the Lord Almighty had not spared a few of us, we would have been wiped out as completely as Sodom and Gomorrah."
- Well then, what shall we say about these things? Just this: The Gentiles have been made right with God by faith, even though they were not seeking him.
- But the Jews, who tried so hard to get right with God by keeping the law, never succeeded.
- Why not? Because they were trying to get right with God by keeping the law and being good instead of by depending on faith. They stumbled over the great rock in their path.
- God warned them of this in the Scriptures when he said, "I am placing a stone in Jerusalem that causes people to stumble, and a rock that makes them fall. But anyone who believes in him will not be disappointed. "
Job 42:6
- I take back everything I said, and I sit in dust and ashes to show my repentance."

- But after they had argued back and forth among themselves, they left with this final word from Paul: "The Holy Spirit was right when he said to our ancestors through Isaiah the prophet,

- And you people of Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? No, you will be brought down to the place of the dead. For if the miracles I did for you had been done in Sodom, it would still be here today.
Ezekiel 3:6
- No, I am not sending you to people with strange and difficult speech. If I did, they would listen!
- I am sending you to the people of Israel, but they won't listen to you any more than they listen to me! For the whole lot of them are hard-hearted and stubborn.

Mark 8:22
- When they arrived at Bethsaida, some people brought a blind man to Jesus, and they begged him to touch and heal the man.
- Jesus took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the village. Then, spitting on the man's eyes, he laid his hands on him and asked, "Can you see anything now?"
- The man looked around. "Yes," he said, "I see people, but I can't see them very clearly. They look like trees walking around."
