4: but during the seventh year the land will enjoy a Sabbath year of rest to the LORD. Do not plant your crops or prune your vineyards during that entire year.

  1. So the message of the LORD spoken through Jeremiah was fulfilled. The land finally enjoyed its Sabbath rest, lying desolate for seventy years, just as the prophet had said.

Leviticus 25:20

  1. But you might ask, `What will we eat during the seventh year, since we are not allowed to plant or harvest crops that year?'
  2. The answer is, `I will order my blessing for you in the sixth year, so the land will produce a bumper crop, enough to support you for three years.

Leviticus 26:34

  1. Then at last the land will make up for its missed Sabbath years as it lies desolate during your years of exile in the land of your enemies. Then the land will finally rest and enjoy its Sabbaths.
  2. As the land lies in ruins, it will take the rest you never allowed it to take every seventh year while you lived in it.
