6: and they intermarried with them. Israelite sons married their daughters, and Israelite daughters were given in marriage to their sons. And the Israelites worshiped their gods.

Exodus 34:16

  1. And you will accept their daughters, who worship other gods, as wives for your sons. Then they will cause your sons to commit adultery against me by worshiping other gods.

Deuteronomy 7:3

  1. Do not intermarry with them, and don't let your daughters and sons marry their sons and daughters.

  1. Now King Solomon loved many foreign women. Besides Pharaoh's daughter, he married women from Moab, Ammon, Edom, Sidon, and from among the Hittites.
  2. The LORD had clearly instructed his people not to intermarry with those nations, because the women they married would lead them to worship their gods. Yet Solomon insisted on loving them anyway.
  3. He had seven hundred wives and three hundred concubines. And sure enough, they led his heart away from the LORD.
  4. In Solomon's old age, they turned his heart to worship their gods instead of trusting only in the LORD his God, as his father, David, had done.
  5. Solomon worshiped Ashtoreth, the goddess of the Sidonians, and Molech, the detestable god of the Ammonites.

Ezekiel 16:3

  1. Give her this message from the Sovereign LORD: You are nothing but a Canaanite! Your father was an Amorite and your mother a Hittite!

Nehemiah 13:23

  1. About the same time I realized that some of the men of Judah had married women from Ashdod, Ammon, and Moab.
  2. Even worse, half their children spoke in the language of Ashdod or some other people and could not speak the language of Judah at all.
  3. So I confronted them and called down curses on them. I beat some of them and pulled out their hair. I made them swear before God that they would not let their children intermarry with the pagan people of the land.
  4. "Wasn't this exactly what led King Solomon of Israel into sin?" I demanded. "There was no king from any nation who could compare to him, and God loved him and made him king over all Israel. But even he was led into sin by his foreign wives.
  5. How could you even think of committing this sinful deed and acting unfaithfully toward God by marrying foreign women?"
