19: "Then Israel sent messengers to King Sihon of the Amorites, who ruled from Heshbon, asking for permission to cross through his land to get to their destination.

Deuteronomy 3:1

  1. "Next we headed for the land of Bashan, where King Og and his army attacked us at Edrei.
  2. But the LORD told me, `Do not be afraid of him, for I have given you victory over Og and his army, giving you his entire land. Treat him just as you treated King Sihon of the Amorites, who ruled in Heshbon.'
  3. So the LORD our God handed King Og and all his people over to us, and we killed them all.
  4. We conquered all sixty of his towns, the entire Argob region in his kingdom of Bashan.
  5. These were all fortified cities with high walls and barred gates. We also took many unwalled villages at the same time.

Numbers 21:21

  1. The Israelites now sent ambassadors to King Sihon of the Amorites with this message:
  2. "Let us travel through your land. We will stay on the king's road until we have crossed your territory. We will not trample your fields or touch your vineyards or drink your well water."
  3. But King Sihon refused to let them cross his land. Instead, he mobilized his entire army and attacked Israel in the wilderness, engaging them in battle at Jahaz.
  4. But the Israelites slaughtered them and occupied their land from the Arnon River to the Jabbok River. They went only as far as the Ammonite border because the boundary of the Ammonites was fortified.
  5. So Israel captured all the towns of the Amorites and settled in them, including the city of Heshbon and its surrounding villages.

Deuteronomy 2:26

  1. "Then from the wilderness of Kedemoth I sent ambassadors to King Sihon of Heshbon with this proposal of peace:
  2. `Let us pass through your land. We will stay on the main road and won't turn off into the fields on either side.
  3. We will pay for every bite of food we eat and all the water we drink. All we want is permission to pass through your land.
  4. The descendants of Esau at Mount Seir allowed us to go through their country, and so did the Moabites, who live in Ar. Let us pass through until we cross the Jordan into the land the LORD our God has given us.'
  5. But King Sihon refused to allow you to pass through, because the LORD your God made Sihon stubborn and defiant so he could help you defeat them, as he has now done.

Joshua 13:8

  1. Half the tribe of Manasseh and the tribes of Reuben and Gad had already received their inheritance on the east side of the Jordan, for Moses, the servant of the LORD, had previously assigned this land to them.
  2. Their territory extended from Aroer on the edge of the Arnon Gorge (including the town in the middle of the gorge) to the plain beyond Medeba, as far as Dibon.
  3. It also included all the towns of King Sihon of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, and extended as far as the borders of Ammon.
  4. It included Gilead, the territory of the kingdoms of Geshur and Maacah, all of Mount Hermon, all of Bashan as far as Salecah,
  5. and all the territory of King Og of Bashan, who had reigned in Ashtaroth and Edrei. King Og was the last of the Rephaites, for Moses had attacked them and driven them out.
