1: Now the gates of Jericho were tightly shut because the people were afraid of the Israelites. No one was allowed to go in or out.

  1. Then Hoshea conspired against the king of Assyria by asking King So of Egypt to help him shake free of Assyria's power and by refusing to pay the annual tribute to Assyria. When the king of Assyria discovered this treachery, he arrested him and put him in prison for his rebellion.
