43: So the LORD gave to Israel all the land he had sworn to give their ancestors, and they conquered it and settled there.

I am going to give all this land to you and your offspring as a permanent possession.

May God pass on to you and your descendants the blessings he promised to Abraham. May you own this land where we now are foreigners, for God gave it to Abraham."

They did not conquer the land with their swords; it was not their own strength that gave them victory. It was by your mighty power that they succeeded; it was because you favored them and smiled on them.

Their enemies crushed them and brought them under their cruel power.
Again and again he delivered them, but they continued to rebel against him, and they were finally destroyed by their sin.
Even so, he pitied them in their distress and listened to their cries.
He remembered his covenant with them and relented because of his unfailing love.

"I will send my terror upon all the people whose lands you invade, and they will panic before you.
I will send hornets ahead of you to drive out the Hivites, Canaanites, and Hittites.
But I will not do this all in one year because the land would become a wilderness, and the wild animals would become too many to control.
I will drive them out a little at a time until your population has increased enough to fill the land.
And I will fix your boundaries from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean Sea, and from the southern deserts to the Euphrates River. I will help you defeat the people now living in the land, and you will drive them out ahead of you.

For you are about to cross the Jordan to occupy the land the LORD your God is giving you. When you are living in that land,

Then the LORD told Abram, "You can be sure that your descendants will be strangers in a foreign land, and they will be oppressed as slaves for four hundred years.
But I will punish the nation that enslaves them, and in the end they will come away with great wealth.
(But you will die in peace, at a ripe old age.)
After four generations your descendants will return here to this land, when the sin of the Amorites has run its course."
As the sun went down and it became dark, Abram saw a smoking firepot and a flaming torch pass between the halves of the carcasses.

Do as I say, and stay here in this land. If you do, I will be with you and bless you. I will give all this land to you and your descendants, just as I solemnly promised Abraham, your father.
I will cause your descendants to become as numerous as the stars, and I will give them all these lands. And through your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed.

So I have come to rescue them from the Egyptians and lead them out of Egypt into their own good and spacious land. It is a land flowing with milk and honey--the land where the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites live.

At the top of the stairway stood the LORD, and he said, "I am the LORD, the God of your grandfather Abraham and the God of your father, Isaac. The ground you are lying on belongs to you. I will give it to you and your descendants.
Your descendants will be as numerous as the dust of the earth! They will cover the land from east to west and from north to south. All the families of the earth will be blessed through you and your descendants.

Then the LORD said to Moses, "This is the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and I told them I would give it to their descendants. I have now allowed you to see it, but you will not enter the land."

Then the LORD appeared to Abram and said, "I am going to give this land to your offspring. "And Abram built an altar there to commemorate the LORD's visit.

"You will soon arrive in the land the LORD your God is giving you, and you will conquer it and settle there. Then you may begin to think, `We ought to have a king like the other nations around us.'
