12: Now swear to me by the LORD that you will be kind to me and my family since I have helped you. Give me some guarantee that

only if you leave this scarlet rope hanging from the window. And all your family members--your father, mother, brothers, and all your relatives--must be here inside the house.

For there will be no mercy for you if you have not been merciful to others. But if you have been merciful, then God's mercy toward you will win out over his judgment against you.

He said to him, "Walk through the streets of Jerusalem and put a mark on the foreheads of all those who weep and sigh because of the sins they see around them."
Then I heard the LORD say to the other men, "Follow him through the city and kill everyone whose forehead is not marked. Show no mercy; have no pity!

"Will you lead me to them?" David asked. The young man replied, "If you swear by God's name that you will not kill me or give me back to my master, then I will guide you to them."

And may you treat me with the faithful love of the LORD as long as I live. But if I die,
treat my family with this faithful love, even when the LORD destroys all your enemies."
So Jonathan made a covenant with David, saying, "May the LORD destroy all your enemies!"
And Jonathan made David reaffirm his vow of friendship again, for Jonathan loved David as much as he loved himself.

And if these nations quickly learn the ways of my people, and if they learn to swear by my name, saying, `As surely as the LORD lives' (just as they taught my people to swear by the name of Baal), then they will be given a place among my people.

Now, swear to me by the LORD that when that happens you will not kill my family and destroy my line of descendants!"
So David promised, and Saul went home. But David and his men went back to their stronghold.

when Jericho is conquered, you will let me live, along with my father and mother, my brothers and sisters, and all their families."
