7: They kept demanding an answer, so he stood up again and said, "All right, stone her. But let those who have never sinned throw the first stones!"

"Stop judging others, and you will not be judged.
For others will treat you as you treat them. Whatever measure you use in judging others, it will be used to measure how you are judged.
And why worry about a speck in your friend's eye when you have a log in your own?
How can you think of saying, 'Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,' when you can't see past the log in your own eye?
Hypocrite! First get rid of the log from your own eye; then perhaps you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend's eye.

Well then, if you teach others, why don't you teach yourself? You tell others not to steal, but do you steal?
You say it is wrong to commit adultery, but do you do it? You condemn idolatry, but do you steal from pagan temples?
You are so proud of knowing the law, but you dishonor God by breaking it.
No wonder the Scriptures say, "The world blasphemes the name of God because of you."
The Jewish ceremony of circumcision is worth something only if you obey God's law. But if you don't obey God's law, you are no better off than an uncircumcised Gentile.

Let your conversation be gracious and effective so that you will have the right answer for everyone.

You may be saying, "What terrible people you have been talking about!" But you are just as bad, and you have no excuse! When you say they are wicked and should be punished, you are condemning yourself, for you do these very same things.
And we know that God, in his justice, will punish anyone who does such things.
Do you think that God will judge and condemn others for doing them and not judge you when you do them, too?

But never put a person to death on the testimony of only one witness. There must always be at least two or three witnesses.
The witnesses must throw the first stones, and then all the people will join in. In this way, you will purge all evil from among you.

"How terrible it will be for you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! You are so careful to clean the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside you are filthy--full of greed and self-indulgence!
Blind Pharisees! First wash the inside of the cup, and then the outside will become clean, too.
"How terrible it will be for you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs--beautiful on the outside but filled on the inside with dead people's bones and all sorts of impurity.
You try to look like upright people outwardly, but inside your hearts are filled with hypocrisy and lawlessness.

For the word of God is full of living power. It is sharper than the sharpest knife, cutting deep into our innermost thoughts and desires. It exposes us for what we really are.
Nothing in all creation can hide from him. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes. This is the God to whom we must explain all that we have done.

But God says to the wicked: "Recite my laws no longer, and don't pretend that you obey me.
For you refuse my discipline and treat my laws like trash.
When you see a thief, you help him, and you spend your time with adulterers.
Your mouths are filled with wickedness, and your tongues are full of lies.
You sit around and slander a brother--your own mother's son.

Repent, or I will come to you suddenly and fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

When arguing with fools, don't answer their foolish arguments, or you will become as foolish as they are.
When arguing with fools, be sure to answer their foolish arguments, or they will become wise in their own estimation.

From his mouth came a sharp sword, and with it he struck down the nations. He ruled them with an iron rod, and he trod the winepress of the fierce wrath of almighty God.

But if all of you are prophesying, and unbelievers or people who don't understand these things come into your meeting, they will be convicted of sin, and they will be condemned by what you say.
As they listen, their secret thoughts will be laid bare, and they will fall down on their knees and worship God, declaring, "God is really here among you."

Does not my word burn like fire?" asks the LORD. "Is it not like a mighty hammer that smashes rock to pieces?

He held seven stars in his right hand, and a sharp two-edged sword came from his mouth. And his face was as bright as the sun in all its brilliance.
