26: But you don't believe me because you are not part of my flock.

Anyone whose Father is God listens gladly to the words of God. Since you don't, it proves you aren't God's children."

So this is the situation: Most of the Jews have not found the favor of God they are looking for so earnestly. A few have--the ones God has chosen--but the rest were made unresponsive.
As the Scriptures say, "God has put them into a deep sleep. To this very day he has shut their eyes so they do not see, and closed their ears so they do not hear."

After he has gathered his own flock, he walks ahead of them, and they follow him because they recognize his voice.

If the Good News we preach is veiled from anyone, it is a sign that they are perishing.
Satan, the god of this evil world, has blinded the minds of those who don't believe, so they are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News that is shining upon them. They don't understand the message we preach about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.

But we belong to God; that is why those who know God listen to us. If they do not belong to God, they do not listen to us. That is how we know if someone has the Spirit of truth or the spirit of deception.

However, those the Father has given me will come to me, and I will never reject them.

Then he said, "That is what I meant when I said that people can't come to me unless the Father brings them to me."

But despite all the miraculous signs he had done, most of the people did not believe in him.
This is exactly what Isaiah the prophet had predicted: "Lord, who has believed our message? To whom will the Lord reveal his saving power?"
But the people couldn't believe, for as Isaiah also said,
"The Lord has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts--so their eyes cannot see, and their hearts cannot understand, and they cannot turn to me and let me heal them."

For people can't come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them to me, and at the last day I will raise them from the dead.
As it is written in the Scriptures, 'They will all be taught by God.' Everyone who hears and learns from the Father comes to me.
