31: "Go up and attack those self-sufficient nomadic tribes," says the LORD. "They live alone in the desert without walls or gates.

You will say, `Israel is an unprotected land filled with unwalled villages! I will march against her and destroy these people who live in such confidence!

O LORD, come and rule your people; lead your flock in green pastures. Help them to live in peace and prosperity. Let them enjoy the fertile pastures of Bashan and Gilead as they did long ago.

So Israel will live in safety, prosperous Jacob in security, in a land of grain and wine, while the heavens drop down dew.

"You are a pleasure-crazy kingdom, living at ease and feeling secure, bragging as if you were the greatest in the world! You say, `I'm self-sufficient and not accountable to anyone! I will never be a widow or lose my children.'

I see them from the cliff tops; I watch them from the hills. I see a people who live by themselves, set apart from other nations.

This is the fate of that boisterous city, once so secure. "In all the world there is no city as great as I," it boasted. But now, look how it has become an utter ruin, a place where animals live! Everyone passing that way will laugh in derision or shake a defiant fist.

Then, with Micah's idols and his priest, the men of Dan came to the town of Laish, whose people were peaceful and secure. They attacked and killed all the people and burned the town to the ground.
There was no one to rescue the residents of the town, for they lived a great distance from Sidon and had no allies nearby. This happened in the valley near Beth-rehob. Then the people of the tribe of Dan rebuilt the town and lived there.

"From her earliest history, Moab has lived in peace. She is like wine that has been allowed to settle. She has not been poured from flask to flask, and she is now fragrant and smooth.

Tremble, you women of ease; throw off your unconcern. Strip off your pretty clothes, and wear sackcloth in your grief.

This is what the LORD says: "Even though the Assyrians have many allies, they will be destroyed and disappear. O my people, I have already punished you once, and I will not do it again.

So the five men went on to the town of Laish, where they noticed the people living carefree lives, like the Sidonians; they were peaceful and secure. The people were also wealthy because their land was very fertile. And they lived a great distance from Sidon and had no allies nearby.
When the men returned to Zorah and Eshtaol, their relatives asked them, "What did you find?"
The men replied, "Let's attack! We have seen the land, and it is very good. You should not hesitate to go and take possession of it.
When you get there, you will find the people living carefree lives. God has given us a spacious and fertile land, lacking in nothing!"

Listen, you women who lie around in lazy ease. Listen to me, and I will tell you of your reward.

We have had our fill of the scoffing of the proud and the contempt of the arrogant.

At that time I will send swift messengers in ships to terrify the complacent Ethiopians. Great panic will come upon them on that day of Egypt's certain destruction.

And I will rain down fire on Magog and on all your allies who live safely on the coasts. Then they will know that I am the LORD.
