Jeremiah 39:4

4: King Zedekiah and his royal guard saw the Babylonians in the city gate, so they fled when the darkness of night arrived. They went out through a gate between the two walls behind the king's garden and headed toward the Jordan Valley.

  1. But if you refuse to surrender, you will not escape! This city will be handed over to the Babylonians, and they will burn it to the ground."
  2. "But I am afraid to surrender," the king said, "for the Babylonians will hand me over to the Judeans who have defected to them. And who knows what they will do to me?"
  3. Jeremiah replied, "You won't be handed over to them if you choose to obey the LORD. Your life will be spared, and all will go well for you.

Deuteronomy 32:24

  1. I will send against them wasting famine, burning fever, and deadly disease. They will be troubled by the fangs of wild beasts, by poisonous snakes that glide in the dust.
  2. Outside, the sword will bring death, and inside, terror will strike both young men and young women, both infants and the aged.
  3. I decided to scatter them, so even the memory of them would disappear.
  4. But I feared the taunt of the enemy, that their adversaries might misunderstand and say, "Our power has triumphed! It was not the LORD who did this!"'
  5. "Israel is a nation that lacks sense; the people are foolish, without understanding.
