Amos 1:2

Isaiah 5:1

- He plowed the land, cleared its stones, and planted it with choice vines. In the middle he built a watchtower and carved a winepress in the nearby rocks. Then he waited for a harvest of sweet grapes, but the grapes that grew were wild and sour.
- "Now, you people of Jerusalem and Judah, you have heard the case; you be the judges.
- What more could I have done to cultivate a rich harvest? Why did my vineyard give me wild grapes when I expected sweet ones?
- Now this is what I am going to do to my vineyard: I will tear down its fences and let it be destroyed. I will break down its walls and let the animals trample it.
Deuteronomy 4:26
- "Today I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you. If you disobey me, you will quickly disappear from the land you are crossing the Jordan to occupy. You will live there only a short time; then you will be utterly destroyed.
- For the LORD will scatter you among the nations, where only a few of you will survive.
Leviticus 26:14
- "However, if you do not listen to me or obey my commands,
- and if you break my covenant by rejecting my laws and treating my regulations with contempt,
- I will punish you. You will suffer from sudden terrors, with wasting diseases, and with burning fevers, causing your eyes to fail and your life to ebb away. You will plant your crops in vain because your enemies will eat them.
- I will turn against you, and you will be defeated by all your enemies. They will rule over you, and you will run even when no one is chasing you!
- "And if, in spite of this, you still disobey me, I will punish you for your sins seven times over.
Isaiah 6:9
- And he said, "Yes, go. But tell my people this: `You will hear my words, but you will not understand. You will see what I do, but you will not perceive its meaning.'
- Harden the hearts of these people. Close their ears, and shut their eyes. That way, they will not see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn to me for healing."
- Then I said, "Lord, how long must I do this?" And he replied, "Until their cities are destroyed, with no one left in them. Until their houses are deserted and the whole country is an utter wasteland.
- Do not stop until the LORD has sent everyone away to distant lands and the entire land of Israel lies deserted.
Joel 3:1
- "At that time, when I restore the prosperity of Judah and Jerusalem," says the LORD,
- "I will gather the armies of the world into the valley of Jehoshaphat. There I will judge them for harming my people, for scattering my inheritance among the nations, and for dividing up my land.
- They cast lots to decide which of my people would be their slaves. They traded young boys for prostitutes and little girls for enough wine to get drunk.
- "What do you have against me, Tyre and Sidon and you cities of Philistia? Are you trying to take revenge on me? If you are, then watch out! I will strike swiftly and pay you back for everything you have done.
- You have taken my silver and gold and all my precious treasures, and you have carried them off to your pagan temples.
1 Samuel 2:27
- One day a prophet came to Eli and gave him this message from the LORD: "Didn't I reveal myself to your ancestors when the people of Israel were slaves in Egypt?
- I chose your ancestor Aaron from among all his relatives to be my priest, to offer sacrifices on my altar, to burn incense, and to wear the priestly garments as he served me. And I assigned the sacrificial offerings to you priests.
- So why do you scorn my sacrifices and offerings? Why do you honor your sons more than me--for you and they have become fat from the best offerings of my people!
- "Therefore, the LORD, the God of Israel, says: The terrible things you are doing cannot continue! I had promised that your branch of the tribe of Levi would always be my priests. But I will honor only those who honor me, and I will despise those who despise me.
- I will put an end to your family, so it will no longer serve as my priests. All the members of your family will die before their time. None will live to a ripe old age.
Micah 3:8
- But as for me, I am filled with power and the Spirit of the LORD. I am filled with justice and might, fearlessly pointing out Israel's sin and rebellion.
- Listen to me, you leaders of Israel! You hate justice and twist all that is right.
- You are building Jerusalem on a foundation of murder and corruption.
- You rulers govern for the bribes you can get; you priests teach God's laws only for a price; you prophets won't prophesy unless you are paid. Yet all of you claim you are depending on the LORD. "No harm can come to us," you say, "for the LORD is here among us."
- So because of you, Mount Zion will be plowed like an open field; Jerusalem will be reduced to rubble! A great forest will grow on the hilltop, where the Temple now stands.
1 Kings 22:8
- King Ahab replied, "There is still one prophet of the LORD, but I hate him. He never prophesies anything but bad news for me! His name is Micaiah son of Imlah.You shouldn't talk like that," Jehoshaphat said. "Let's hear what he has to say."
Isaiah 24:1
- Look! The LORD is about to destroy the earth and make it a vast wasteland. See how he is scattering the people over the face of the earth.
- Priests and laypeople, servants and masters, maids and mistresses, buyers and sellers, lenders and borrowers, bankers and debtors--none will be spared.
- The earth will be completely emptied and looted. The LORD has spoken!
- The earth dries up, the crops wither, the skies refuse to rain.
- The earth suffers for the sins of its people, for they have twisted the instructions of God, violated his laws, and broken his everlasting covenant.
Deuteronomy 28:15
- "But if you refuse to listen to the LORD your God and do not obey all the commands and laws I am giving you today, all these curses will come and overwhelm you:
- You will be cursed in your towns and in the country.
- You will be cursed with baskets empty of fruit, and with kneading bowls empty of bread.
- You will be cursed with few children and barren fields. You will be cursed with infertile herds and flocks.
- You will be cursed wherever you go, both in coming and in going.
1 Kings 14:7
- Give your husband, Jeroboam, this message from the LORD, the God of Israel: `I promoted you from the ranks of the common people and made you ruler over my people Israel.
- I ripped the kingdom away from the family of David and gave it to you. But you have not been like my servant David, who obeyed my commands and followed me with all his heart and always did whatever I wanted him to do.

- Then the LORD said to Samuel, "I am about to do a shocking thing in Israel.
- I am going to carry out all my threats against Eli and his family.
- I have warned him continually that judgment is coming for his family, because his sons are blaspheming God and he hasn't disciplined them.
- So I have vowed that the sins of Eli and his sons will never be forgiven by sacrifices or offerings."
Nahum 1:1
- This message concerning Nineveh came as a vision to Nahum, who lived in Elkosh.
- The LORD is a jealous God, filled with vengeance and wrath. He takes revenge on all who oppose him and furiously destroys his enemies!
- The LORD is slow to get angry, but his power is great, and he never lets the guilty go unpunished. He displays his power in the whirlwind and the storm. The billowing clouds are the dust beneath his feet.
Joel 1:2
- Hear this, you leaders of the people! Everyone listen! In all your history, has anything like this ever happened before?
- Tell your children about it in the years to come. Pass the awful story down from generation to generation.
- After the cutting locusts finished eating the crops, the swarming locusts took what was left! After them came the hopping locusts, and then the stripping locusts, too!
- Wake up, you drunkards, and weep! All the grapes are ruined, and all your new wine is gone!
- A vast army of locusts has invaded my land. It is a terrible army, too numerous to count! Its teeth are as sharp as the teeth of lions!
Deuteronomy 32:15
- But Israel soon became fat and unruly; the people grew heavy, plump, and stuffed! Then they abandoned the God who had made them; they made light of the Rock of their salvation.
- They stirred up his jealousy by worshiping foreign gods; they provoked his fury with detestable acts.
- They offered sacrifices to demons, non-gods, to gods they had not known before, to gods only recently arrived, to gods their ancestors had never feared.
- You neglected the Rock who had fathered you; you forgot the God who had given you birth.
- "The LORD saw this and was filled with loathing. He was provoked to anger by his own sons and daughters.
1 Kings 21:18
- "Go down to meet King Ahab, who rules in Samaria. He will be at Naboth's vineyard in Jezreel, taking possession of it.
- Give him this message: `This is what the LORD says: Isn't killing Naboth bad enough? Must you rob him, too? Because you have done this, dogs will lick your blood outside the city just as they licked the blood of Naboth!'"
- "So my enemy has found me!" Ahab exclaimed to Elijah. "Yes," Elijah answered, "I have come because you have sold yourself to what is evil in the LORD's sight.
- The LORD is going to bring disaster to you and sweep you away. He will not let a single one of your male descendants, slave or free alike, survive in Israel!
- He is going to destroy your family as he did the family of Jeroboam son of Nebat and the family of Baasha son of Ahijah, for you have made him very angry and have led all of Israel into sin.
Deuteronomy 29:18
- The LORD made this covenant with you so that no man, woman, family, or tribe among you would turn away from the LORD our God to worship these gods of other nations, and so that no root among you would bear bitter and poisonous fruit.
- Let none of those who hear the warnings of this curse consider themselves immune, thinking, `I am safe, even though I am walking in my own stubborn way.' This would lead to utter ruin!
- The LORD will not pardon such people. His anger and jealousy will burn against them. All the curses written in this book will come down on them, and the LORD will erase their names from under heaven.
- The LORD will separate them from all the tribes of Israel, to pour out on them all the covenant curses recorded in this Book of the Law.
- "Then the generations to come, both your own descendants and the foreigners who come from distant lands, will see the devastation of the land and the diseases the LORD will send against it.
Isaiah 13:18
- The attacking armies will shoot down the young people with arrows. They will have no mercy on helpless babies and will show no compassion for the children.
